Re: Just got my new C&C kit!

I LOVE Ludwig Classic Maples, and I think they would be a perfect fit for what you are looking for.

Re: Just got my new C&C kit!

The Player Dates (like the OP has) would probably not be a good fit for aggressive music. They are much darker, not as loud, and a little more mellow sounding than what I would consider appropriate...

Re: Favorite/Least Favorite Finishes

I absolutely loathe any burst, fade, or crap like that, probably more than the ubiquitous wine red or solid black wrap. I also personally am not a fan of drum sets looking like fine furniture, but...

Re: Help me choose a maple kit

Ludwig Classic Maple kits can be found in that range, as can Gretsch Renowns. Those would be my first choices.

Re: Just how much DO drummers make?

Just had to add my experience to this discussion.

About three years ago I was approached by a fairly well known (well known to me at least!) regional band about joining them. The band had been...

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

So I bought this Ludwig Classic Maple kit in vintage black oyster a while before I moved to Singapore, but unfortunately it was not mailed off to me until after I had left. After having lived in...

Hello Again, Old Friend

Due to my moving to Singapore and blowing out my knee shortly before leaving, I haven't played an acoustic drum set in over four months. (I was able to set up my electronic drum set a couple of weeks...

Re: Endorsement deals: Vinnie no longer with Ludwig?

There are plenty of youtube clips out there where Vinne's Gretsch drums sound like crap - cardboard boxes with mics. The room, the tuning, the heads all play a big role. I like Gretsch drums, but I...

Re: Endorsement deals: Vinnie no longer with Ludwig?

Over the past ten years I have purchased kits from Ayotte, Gretsch, Yamaha, DW, Pork Pie, C&C, and Ludwig. In fact, I have purchased several Ludwig kits and all of them were terrific sounding and of...

Re: What sizes of shells and cymbals for an all-around utility kit?

I'd go with a 22/14/12 kit. I like 20" kicks - have a couple - but not as much as I like 22" kicks. I have never heard a 20" that would go as low ( and still have clarity) as my 22" kicks. I tend to...

Re: Wood hoops on Ludwig toms.

I actually would disagree. I owned two Ayotte kits back in the early 2000s (both 22/12/14/16). One of the kits had wood hoops (Ayotte hoops) and the other had 2.3mm metal hoops. The wood hoops dried...

Re: Just got my new C&C kit!

Congrats! I have two C&C kits (both 3 ply maple/poplar/maple) and they are fantastic sounding/looking drums. That's a beauty of a set you have!

Re: Gretsch USA Custom VS Ludwig Legacy

Having owned both I would say the USA Customs are more focused and more attack driven than the Legacies. The Legacies have a bit fuller sound, but I think that is probably due to the die cast hoops...

Re: Opinions or IMHO's re: depth on toms w/ gigging kit

I also play in a twangy, Americana band and I like to use a 12X8 rack and a 16X16 floor.

I have to say, I don't think the Mapex is a good choice. There are a fair number of twangy/alt.country/...

Re: Wood Hoop Ayottes- I have questions (and lust)

I have owned two wood-hooped Ayotte kits, so I think I can speak to your questions. First off, the sound is slightly drier and a tad more focused than the same drums with 2.3mm hoops.

I never had...

Re: Beater set, or beat the baby?

I always use my nice kit for gigs unless I am sharing my drums with another drummer, in which case I bring out my "beater" 1971 Ludwigs.

Here is a quick story that explains why I don't believe in...

Re: Pearl aluminium, or Ludwig?

The new 6.5X14 reissue Acrolite is a fantastic drum, and in my opinion better than the Pearl Sensitone. I like the the drier sound, and I feel like it is a very adaptable drum- more so than the Supra...

Re: This guy has left me speechless...

Wow, that is absolutely amazing! Kudos to him!

How is he holding the stick in his left arm? He seems to have to whip his entire arm to be able to play, but he has figured out something that works....

Re: Battlefield Co. or SJC Drums?

C&C drums make some outstanding kits. They also make their own shells, so you will certainly get a more unique sound than the ubiquitous Keller or Mapex kits.

Re: Low tuned snare drums sound awesome (video included)

I subscribed to Ash's youtube page, just because of how great a drummer he is. He isn't super flashy, but man, his pocket is about a mile wide. I'm not a huge fan of the low-pitched snare sound he...

Re: Do you gig vintage gear?

I have a 1968 Ludwig kit and a 1971 Ludwig kit that I gig with once in a while. They sound fantastic, although the hardware and such can be a little temperamental.

A couple of years ago, I used...

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

Thought I had this kit sold -TWICE- but each deal has fallen through, so back on the block they go.

I have a set of 2011 Yamaha Club Custom drums in 22X15, 16X15, 12X8, and 14X5.5. I have only...

Re: What's your favorite snare?

I have a couple of favorites for different situations.

For live my favorite is a 6.5X14 Craviotto Unlimited. The drum is fat and very warm sounding, it just sits perfectly in the mix. This one...

Re: The aging musician

I'm 43, but I think about this all the time. The first thing I notice about my age is how OTHER people react. My love is playing original music, but it is VERY difficult finding an original band that...
