Re: What do you play in a drumstore to impress the guys from the drumstore?

i went to GC once to buy some sticks. I told the guy I was building custom snare drums. That impressed the guy so much he asked if he could go to work for me someday which is funny because you...

Weirdest drumming related mishap/injury/accident

In my 23 years of playing drums I have whacked myself in the nose only three times but I once managed to hit myself in the back of the head once.

What have you done to yourself with a pair of...

Re: Your thoughts on metal drummers?

Fake "Gangsta" Rap. What about that? I still cannot understand why this is even a thread.

Re: Your thoughts on metal drummers?

What metal drummers and metal bands are being referred to here? Meshuggah's music speaks of politics, science, religion. I'm not sure what this thread is about. So you can play metal if you were...

Re: Travis Barker

True. But for instance, a Cardiologist's opinion about your veins and heart is stronger and probably more important than some bum's on the street opinion even if the guy has read a book or two about...

Re: Price Fixing as It Pertains to Drums, etc.

That may be true but not so much around here. We've got two GC here in Austin but it seems like things aren't looking so good for them. The bulk consumers go there but the small shops like Tommy's...

everybody's entitled to their opinion. Some opinions are more informed than others. For instance: if I was an anstronaut and I had seen something I felt was a flying saucer and held the opinion...

Re: Price Fixing as It Pertains to Drums, etc.

I recently bought a whole new set up including cymbals. I originally priced out everything on GC.com. I went to the best shop in Texas (Tommy's Drum Shop) and those guys priced out everything...

Re: Your thoughts on metal drummers?

Tomas Haake and Peter Wildoer.

How many jazz drummers can play wicked tech. speed metal? It's kinda stupid for a jazz or blues drummer to say a metal drummer is a 'one trick pony,' especially...

Re: SJC Custom

Man if I had my stuff set up in an adequate shop, I could build you a kit. I could build you a snare drum right now, but not a whole kit. Someday! And I'm in Austin, Texas.

Re: Any Neil Peart fans?

I've seen him drop a stick, Hold Your Fire show he dropped a stick. Dropping sticks happens. Nothing you can do about that except glue them to yourself maybe. I've seen him break sticks. I've...

Re: SJC Custom

Tama makes a birch/bubinga Starclassic kit which is a screamer and they make an all Bubinga kit. Hell, if you're interested in Bubinga . . . the price is gonna be similar to an SJC.

Re: SJC Custom

Yeah they sound good but they're way way way over-priced. Stick with the Superstars if a custom finish isn't so important. Always bear in mind this: Maple is NOT the best wood. Maple has a lot of...

Re: Travis Barker

Travis Barker doesn't play punk and neither does Blink 182 because Travis Barker isn't punk and neither is Blink 182. Wannabes, posers: yes. Punks: no.

Re: Paradiddle buzz roll?

it's not that difficult. the only hard part is the smooth uninterrupted buzz from R to R and L to L. now a buzzed shirlery murphy would be hard.

Re: Bet you can't pull this off

well they're idiots. nowadays what's done in a studio: ya, hard to tell. so live situations are where you find out who's got it in the arms and legs as well as the head.

program on!

Yeah I got a Tama Superstar Custom. They sound great. I read that the Older Tama Starclassics or Starclassic Performers were Basswood/Birch. Now the Superstars are. Doesn't the drummers bible...

Re: Bet you can't pull this off

I don't think it's cheating at all. Now using ProTools to make a medicore drummer or drum part sound better (and by better I mean beyond that drummer's actual capabilities) is cheating. But if you...

Re: Bet you can't pull this off

Dude, relax. I agree with you. Please read what I said. It's a GOOD way to write complex parts - via a drum machine. I said drumming, or all music for that matter, is largely "in the brain." I...
