Loved it!

Great show of rhythm, timing, coordination and musicality.

Re: Drummers you like on youtube

He's actual an old friend and fellow student of mine!

He was a finalist in the Billy Hyde drummers playoffs a few times and won it in 2006, I think it was. He's always been a fantastic player!

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

This reminded me. I saw him at the Drumscene Live event in 2009 or 2010, I think it was. He played with Derek Roddy and another guy whose name escapes me at the moment. I was really keyed up to...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

I don't care much for Buddy Rich. Plus, he has bad posture :P. Sure, he pioneered one or two things, but watching him play gets old pretty quickly. IMO there are much better modern drummers. THAT...

Re: Double bass practice idea?

I didn't mean to imply that it wasn't, but simply that muscle memory is 90% of what's going on. You are correct, though. I would suggest muscular endurance plays a bigger part though. It's really...

Re: Double bass practice idea?

It's not so much the muscular strength, but the development of muscle memory that is more important.

So adjusting your seat height is actually theoretically more likely to have a negative effect...

Re: The ultimate independence test - can anyone do this?

Like picking your nose, eh? :)

Personally I'd never bother learning something like this, but I definitely want to do more stuff pitting odd subdivisions against each other. Just haven't been...

Re: Open handed drumming - What do you think about it?

Well, I think it's more important to keep an eye on your posture no matter how you have your kit set up. Everything should be aligned, no slouching, make sure your shoulders are in line with your...

Only with Zildjian, but that's not related to the silver content...

Re: Had my first lesson and it was with a 4-year old! Continue with open-handed or not?

I only really have two things to add:

1. I would not teach him traditional grip. Matched grip requires much less maintenance, is easier to develop and also encourages better posture. I used to...

Re: How do you guys deal with knee problems?

Ditch the elliptical. Learn to squat.

Now, before anyone shouts "But squats are bad for the knees!", this is not true. Squats done CORRECTLY actually benefit the knees greatly by strengthening...

Just don't overtighten them or they'll tell you to go elicit sexual relations with yourself :)

Re: IMPERIAL CYMBALS RIPPED US OFF!!!

Agreed, excessive legal action is frowned upon and often mocked by a lot of people in this country. Unfortunately it has been becoming more commonplace, but it's not as bad as in the US.

Re: Noticing a few trends here

Well, I could name a few names of repeat offenders, but I won't do that because that's just bad form :).

I generally get good comments from sound guys because my kit is actually tuned correctly. ...

Re: Heel Up Question

Hmmm, difficult question for me as I had learned my balance from a few years of practising keeping time with my left foot on the hats before I even owned a double pedal.

I would make this my...

Re: Drumming Idiosyncrasies

When I was married I always wore the ring and it never bothered me.

But otherwise, pockets are empty, phone where I can see it if it goes off while I'm practising, otherwise if I'm at a gig it's...

Re: What is the difference of 3/4 and 6/8?

The only reason I can think of tango music being in 4/8 would be that the pulse is an 1/8th note feel, not a 1/4 note feel. It was like that with when I used to do on 1 salsa dancing, we were...

Re: Noticing a few trends here

I could talk about my gear all day long as well :).

In fact, I sometimes tell people mid-sentence "By the way, if you get me started talking about drums I probably won't shut up, sorry."

I just...

Noticing a few trends here

There seems to be a distinct pattern towards people posting topics about the importance of cymbal/drum/head choice, and whether or not drummers are important/will be taken over by drum machines/what...

Re: What is the difference of 3/4 and 6/8?

Just to throw my 2c in.

Whenever you see a time signature based on 1/4 notes (eg. 3/4, 4/4, 6/4), it will generally have the feel of a song in 4/4.

Whenever you see a time signature based on...

Re: IMPERIAL CYMBALS RIPPED US OFF!!!

Definitely not overreacting. This is totally juvenile and unprofessional behaviour on the part of Imperial Cymbals. Probably the best suggestion I would have would be to contact their key endorsees...

Re: "Nobody cares about the drummer, except for the Rush guy."

Dre beat me to it. Who cares?

This is a world full of people who listen to Lady Gaga and Kiesha. Let them have their opinions.

Exactly what relevance does the opinion of a group people who go...
