Re: New snare - If you've got a spare £5k kicking around

The only time I’ve seen Craviato in person was in Japan. That snare would round out the $15,000 three piece set I saw quite nicely.

Re: How to trawl craigslist for deals

Phoenix is loaded with the ladder. I can buy any garbage drums I want for the price of new or a bargain price of double that of new. I see deals in LA and SF, but rarely if ever come across a good...

Re: Is made in the US really that much better?

Just watched a story on China’s Thought Transformation camps, so I can see how people would report “happiness” in their jobs. Also watched a story on organ transplants in China. Evidently, prisons...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

It’s the honest looking ones you have to watch out for. I wouldn’t trust him at all. :)

Re: Is made in the US really that much better?

I’m so missing the point here. Is this some kind of class warfare comment? Like if you don’t have a big car, you shouldn’t be able to build good drums, but somehow you manage despite not having a...

Re: Is made in the US really that much better?

Say what??? I don’t get why the SUV always becomes an argument in everything and how on earth it’s actually an argument. I’ve been in Japan for the past 10 days. One of the observations I’ve made is...

Re: Considering my “retirement” kit

I so wanted a set in those sizes, but can have only one. :’( it’s going to be an awesome set. Congrats.

Re: New Drums from Mapex

Tom leg may be interesting if you’re fighting too much sustain, but most intigged by the rings.

Re: What's actually going well for you in your world of music?

The thing that cracked me up when I first read the thread title was the “actually” part! Are we a bunch of downers? Damn...I just bought a limited edition ( insert brand name) and got a smoking...

Sweet choice. So what was it Brad said to sway your decision?

Re: If you could decide for your favorite manfacturer's standard sizes?

I have this configuration minus the 10” and love it. My previous setup had 10x8 and 12x9 and I like the 1” shallower 12” better. If for nothing more, it lets me set the tom lower. For me the...

Re: What's actually going well for you in terms of playing and gear?

1) I have a drum set that sounds like I’ve always wanted one too and stays in tune for a long time.

2) Love HHX Evolution cymbals. They’re just the right mix of sounds I searched for a long time....

Re: Gretsch recommendation

Really? I've messed with those dozens of times and they are standard bolts going into steel. They feel like anything else I have on my other snares. Maybe that was one of their latest updates, but...

Re: Tama Starphonic Brass Snare

They have a black chrome over steel, and nickel over brass, but with GC, you never know. Great picture too in the ad! Pretty typical. I wouldn't trust anyone to actually know either. Great that...

Here you go. May be worth a call to make sure it is in fact brass and not black chrome. You could try it and see. :)

Re: Tama Starphonic Brass Snare

Could explain why there are so few reviews! It was the same with my two Gretsch snares too. Makes you think maybe they just can’t be tuned or something drastic is wrong! I absolutely love my...

Their Black Panther series has been top notch. Also hoping they will do well, but can’t help having some fun.

I was going to comment on that earlier too. I think Mapex is including a drum key with every new set! ROFLOL!

Re: Gretsch USA Custom 14x6.5 Cast Aluminum

The bronze is very woody, but the rimshots blow away any wood snare I've ever played. The aluminum will be nothing with that 42 strand strainer they put on. It's way too choked. Not sure why my...

Re: Tama Starphonic Brass Snare

Starphonic is definitely in the mid range category and for some reason, it along with a ton of other mid range snares, don't get a ton of love with regards to reviews, or YouTube like the lower and...

Re: New Drums from Mapex

When I first saw tis video I thought those mounts were just prototypes. Looking at the video and pausing in spots shows the Mapex stamp on them. Now I'm horrified! They aren't actually proposing...
