Re: Base Drum volume. HELP Please talk me down off this ledge.

It is more than the size of the driver (speaker) that determines the low frequency output of a box. For example we had a series on floor monitors where the 12” speaker produced more low bass than the...

Re: Base Drum volume. HELP Please talk me down off this ledge.

It is a patented device to ensure that air moves in on one port while moving out of the box on the other. So it provides additional cooling to the drivers by turning over the air inside the cabinet....

Re: Base Drum volume. HELP Please talk me down off this ledge.

Speaking as a professional speaker designer ( i headed engineering for over 50 speakers systems designed for Peavey) ... It does, but minimally. Actually sound is not produced by “moving air”,...

Re: Base Drum volume. HELP Please talk me down off this ledge.

How many subwoofer cabinets have ever seen at were 1/4” thick? None!

Drums are designed for the shell to resonate. Subs are designed for the cabs to not vibrate at all.

Re: Got drum gear invention/improvement ideas?

Having been a product manager and designer let me offer this from that point of view. Henry Ford once said ... if I had listened to my customers I would have invented a better horse.

So maybe a...

Re: Can a very (!) cheap drumset sound ok..?

I bought one of those Sawtooth bop kits for $189 that Woot was blowing out a couple of months ago. I stripped the plastic wrap off the shells and put on some Ambassadors and damned if I can tell any...

Re: "Projection" of drums

I know this is not a technical forum, but if anyone cares about technically what's going on ...

First- decibels are not a measure of anything. They express a ratio compared to something else...

Re: "Projection" of drums

I think thick shells project because they are just louder to start with. Remember if the shell resonates it is doing so by soaking up what would otherwise be acoustic energy.

Your enunciation...

Re: At which point do polyrhythms stop sounding cool and start sounding academic?

Correct me if I'm wrong here ... but a polyrhythm is a rhythm that uses multiple rhythms at the same time, regardless of the time signature.

So to the OP's question, for me, it becomes academic if...

Re: The longest wait?

Not to say it is the case here, but back in my manufacturing days I had customers bitching about long delays only to find out that their dealer was on credit hold and did not actually place the order...

Re: Getting ear impressions for IEM

Every piece of electronic gear makes some amount of noise as well as being able to output some higher level of output before it goes into distortion. The distance between that noise and the beginning...

Re: Check my logic and correct me if necessary.

Think of the 8 or the 4 as the scale on a map. Might be an inch = 10 miles or an inch =100 miles. But in either case the distance from Boston to New York is the same.

Here’s from the wiki page....

Re: Check my logic and correct me if necessary.

From my perspective, the differences are about how you write it not how you play it. So while you could be correct, you might not always be correct.

Re: Forum Views Drum Gear vs. Forum Views Drum Technique..

I think a lot of it is that we have become a Microwave society. We want it now. And for a great many of us it is far easier to lay out a little money than it is to rehearse 6 hours a day for a few...

Wood expands and shrinks not with age, but with changes in humidity. But with a bass hoop you would be covering all of the surface so there's no way for moisture in or out. But I have no issues with...

Very small ones. I wipe the logos off my cymbals and drum heads and would remove them from the drums if they didn’t leave marks.

But wait, with no logos on my drums other drummers wouldn’t know...
