Re: Wierd set up

He plays right handed AND right footed on what is essentially a left handed kit. He explained that if he had thought about it at the beginning he would have just learned a normal open handed style on...

Re: Cut the cable?

We cut the cord when we moved last summer and are finally getting to where I wanted to be for a long while. We have had Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime for years, and when we moved I managed to...

Re: Tama SLP G-Bubinga Kits

I've owned the SLP G-Bubinga snare and I regret selling it every day. It was a phenomenal snare drum.

Aside from the great sound of the drum, I loved the look of the quilted bubinga and the black...

Re: Hi guys. I cant tune

Rob Brown on Youtube has some good tuning videos. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChR2UZr__AZjYV1dHGUp-Mg

Also the Sounds Like a Drum channel is really good. They use a single mic placed about...

Re: Favorite high end drum kit- model and brand?

I agree with this thinking. Advances in manufacturing means that a Stage Custom or a Concept Maple kit of today can be equivalent in quality to a mid tier kit from yesteryear. The mid tier kits add...

Re: Live BPM and Metronome App Together

I've wanted this as well. LiveBPM is a great app on its own, but it would be great to have an iPad app with a section at the top showing LiveBPM, a metronome showing what the time should be, and a...

Re: At which point do polyrhythms stop sounding cool and start sounding academic?

I feel the same. When you can't tell that the band is playing polyrhythmically, that's when it works the best. In my opinion Tool, Opeth (especially the last couple of albums), Steven Wilson /...

Re: 100,000 Years Shuffle

This is my favorite shuffle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZfNWJm-6X0). Jason McGerr from Death Cab for Cutie.

Re: Ok Iím a fan of Mike Portnoy

They were supposed to play in SA? I wish I had known that earlier. Maybe my ticket would have been the one ticket to push them over the break-even point.

Re: Pros who play low-ish end or midrange kits?

That's usually due to whatever company is providing the backline not having a Starclassic Maple kit on hand. For logistics purposes, if the act isn't bringing their full setup (like on a smaller tour...

Re: New Ride!

For a second there, I thought you were using the "it's dangerous for me to walk into a car dealership" as an introduction to a story about how you walked into a drum shop and bought a new ride...

Re: Yamaha SC snare upgrade

If the RC Aluminum snare is on your radar and in your price range, then I would wholeheartedly recommend that one. It is a great drum.

Re: Black Beauty or something else?

I use a Yamaha Recording Custom aluminum snare and it's a great snare that's a little cheaper than a BB, but it sounds incredible.

Re: Bass Drum Issues

Anchor the bass drum another way?

Do you have a drum rug? A combination of a rug and Velcro on the bottom of your bass drum pedal should keep the drum stationary.

Re: Ergonomics of Playing a Kit

Check out the YouTube link I posted earlier in this thread. There is a drummer who sets up his kit exactly this way. He seems to be able to play quite naturally with the hats and ride on the right...

Re: Ergonomics of Playing a Kit

This is basically how Harry Miree sets up his kit. It's an open handed concept for right handed players (or for lefties who learned to play on a right handed kit like me). If you've trained your feet...

Re: Charity Gig Woes / Rant

I didn't see the original thread, but I have played a gig for a charitable organization. It was their 75th anniversary and we were paid well for the gig, so that wasn't an issue, but afterward the...

Re: I'm going deaf!! Some headphone advice please

Which model of Shure IEMs do you have? You can probably get some Comply foam tips for them that will block out more than 90% of the outside sound. I use the Shure SE215 IEMs and the Comply tips and...

Re: My favorite sizes are not popular in a regular set

Stage Customs come in a 10/12/14F/14S/20K configuration, and the 16" floor tom is pretty cheap. I bought this exact setup last year and I take the 12/16F/20K with a RC snare out to gigs.

I have...

Re: Thoughts on older Gretsch Maple Renowns vs. new Yamaha stage Customs??

I bought a set of the Stage Customs last year and ended up selling my Renowns. The Renowns are great drums but as a gigging kit the lighter weight of the Yamahas did it for me. I'm shorter, so I also...

Re: Anyone on here load in with only one trip to the car?

Get a speaker stand bag (https://www.amazon.com/Stage-SSB6500-Speaker-Mic-Stand/dp/B000CCXLTS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1509548138&sr=8-4&keywords=speaker+stand+bag). You can fit several stands in there...

Re: Lightweight Drum Shell Pack Suggestions?

+1 on this suggestion. I went from a Gretsch Renown kit to a Yamaha Stage Custom, partly due to the weight of the kit. The entire kit weighs less that the Renown bass drum. I can carry it all in one...
