Re: Have You Heard of Brady Drums?

Heard of them long ago, some of my colleagues have Brady snares and love them. I've tapped on kits at NAMM for many years, they're terrific drums!

Re: ?uestlove's new Tonight Show Kit

They never went away, despite a 35-year attempt by deep bass drums trying to become the norm! :)

Yeah, no love lost between them overall.

Re: Has anyone read the book "The Wrecking Crew"?

Excellent, that would tend to disprove Carol's allegation, or at least distance such use from the marketing of his book 10 years later.

Re: Has anyone read the book "The Wrecking Crew"?

Carol maintains that Hal made up the term more recently - presumably just in time for his book - and that they weren't called the Wrecking Crew back in the day. Hal's story is that the traditional...

Re: Lugwig Legacy. How good of a deal is this?

That's from the original Legacy launch in (I think) 2007. The finish is a lacquered sparkle, there was also a white/red fade. I'm not too familiar with the build at the time, it's not the same edge...

Re: ?uestlove's new Tonight Show Kit

No details on the kit or finish, but I suspect the photo doesn't do the 'fade' justice. I'm sure it looks more gradual in person.

Re: Has anyone read the book "The Wrecking Crew"?

Hal's book came out in 1990, and it's been updated/reissued, currently in its third edition.

The new book about a lot of the old songs is called "Sound Explosion".

Speaking of Motown, there...

Re: Has anyone read the book "The Wrecking Crew"?

There's "Hal Blaine & the Wrecking Crew", and also "The Wrecking Crew" by Kent Hartman. Both great books!

Also a new book coming out about the songs, I'll have to look up the title.

Re: Crowdfunding Campaign to Compensate "Amen Break" Owner

Technically, since the sample is from the original recording, the owner of that master would get compensated for its use.

If somebody was to make an identical, new recording of the drum part, it...

Re: Crowdfunding Campaign to Compensate "Amen Break" Owner

I haven't known a drum part to be copyrighted, however some person or company does in fact own the recording. That would have originally been the record label, and is presumably now whoever owns that...

Re: Going to jams and getting my ass musically kicked is a good thing.

Always fun for me, although I haven't really branched out past my local jam (where I've been participating for about 17 years!) There are some great players there, and while my chops aren't always...

Re: George Way Drum Co. ?

Dunnett's Geo. Way drums are a real treat. Great warmth & boom, and they sing at a more 'jazz' tuning. I have 4 of the snares including a lovely 6.5x14" steambent maple. :)

Re: Lady Gaga on the Oscars.

She's a singer-songwriter who plays piano, so at the very least she's a true artist. The piano playing and composing isn't enough to qualify her as a "musician"? In that case, I'm definitely not a...

Re: Lady Gaga on the Oscars.

I said long ago that Gaga is the real thing. Besides being a great singer, she writes and she plays, which places her much higher up the food chain than Britney, Christina, Demi, etc etc.

Re: Brand Loyalty

Of course, and that demonstrates a commitment. It does not demonstrate that the company is loyal to its customers in the way a customer can be loyal to a brand.

That was my entire point, even with...

Re: Brand Loyalty

Initially, it would have been a fairly lateral move product-wise for those using Zildjian's As to start playing Sabian AAs. I think the differences between the companies became more evident...

Re: Double Bass Drum Futility

Jason Horsler, a former regular contributor here, wrote a book based on the concept that 'perfect practice makes perfect'.

So, while you may be devoting a lot of time to working your feet, if...

Re: Brand Loyalty

I'm loyal to a brand because of the product, I don't have an expectation of 'loyalty' from a company to me, although I do appreciate the commitment a company may have (and also might consider their...

Re: Brand Loyalty

It depends on the frequency of such moves, and to an extent, the drummer and the 'new' brand.

Some drummers just don't have a good reputation for sticking with one brand for long, and regardless...

Re: Brand Loyalty

That's an important point. Tastes do change, the music we play may change, and even as we age, our (possibly) deteriorating hearing may dictate that we choose cymbals with more high end. A late-'50s...

Re: Brand Loyalty

Loyalty to the extreme isn't always possible. I endorsed Impact fiberglass drums for over 20 years, and while the kicks and toms always did exactly what I wanted, there were times a song or gig...

I think the posts were about what Bo said the guys in the other forum said, not necessarily intended as replies (per se) to his question. If Bo hadn't introduced the other information and simply...
