Re: Missing that...something

In my opinion, 'groove' can be learned, but not in the same way that technique and chops are learnt. For my first 6 years of playing, my practice was almost entirely playing with other musicians and...

Re: Practice and creativity

Practicing in itself won't make you less creative, but time spent practicing rudiments and technique is time not spent playing with other musicians.

You won't get less creative, but you may find...

Re: Church gigs?

Churches are charities, not businesses, owned by the people, for the people. Playing for free is giving, its a musician's way of doing his or her part, giving back to the establishment and group of...

Re: Church gigs?

The general consensus of christian rock can be pretty poor, but you have to think about a number of things...

There's a difference between 'worship music' and plain christian rock. There are...

Re: Overlooking the practical use of rudiments

Or maybe its the importance of the snare drum and drum lines in the USA, which we have no equivalent for over here.

It would certainly explain why we don't take rudiments as seriously, when the US...

Re: Mapex Horizon or pearl vision???

This is probably gonna come down to opinions, so i'm gonna say Mapex Horizon. But if you can get hold of a set of Mapex M-Birch's, you'll be very pleased indeed.

Re: Overlooking the practical use of rudiments

Hahah, If you think Lincoln's backward-thinking, you should try Wales ;)

Re: Distance between beater and bass drum?

I think i heard somewhere that the springs are most responsive set to '0', which is where they are not stretched at all in resting position. I think its also better for your foot control as well if...

Re: Frustrated Beginner practice help

To begin, its a good sign you're so passionate about improving your playing!

But also, you might just need to chill out for a bit to see where it all fits in musically. If it were me, I'd want a...

Re: Pirating, us and the future.

BassDriver, the problem with that theory is that music is already available to all at a modest price, and if literature had been spread around for free then would most of the greatest books of our...

Re: Why Is There Such An Anti-Jazz Vibe Here?

I'd say if anything there's the opposite tendancy on this forum.

Generally, compared to other drum forums out there (Pearl Drummers Forum comes to mind) the average age of posters is higher here,...
