Re: Ride Cymbal Technique

I was watching that video over and over for about 15minutes straight, and I noticed his grip is wayyyyyyyy back on the stick, almost at the end. These may be a totally naive questions, but does that...

Re: Is This A Good Idea?

If you were playing a battle of the bands (or a similar situation where you would be playing a one-song set), it COULD be cool, maybe.

On the other hand, if you have a fake cloth fire in your bass...

"Drum Wisdom" by Bob Moses. Just got it, and LOVE it. Good luck finding a copy (it's out of print, so keep your eyes on ebay).

Re: Drum Oriented Music

Billy Martin has some great percussion solo/duet albums out. I have "Solo Live Tonic 2002" and "Live at Houston Hall" (the latter was also with Grant Calvin Weston). I love the Bozzio stuff, don't...

Re: "Drum Wisdom" by Bob Moses

My father-in-law-to-be found it for me. Two days after I asked him if he could find it. I have no idea where or how, but I'm sure as heck not complaining.

"Drum Wisdom" by Bob Moses

I just got my hands on a copy (should arrive today, I hope) and I've seen people mention it on DrummerWorld. If you have it (or have at least read it before), please post your...

Re: Gospel/R&B/Hip Hop style drumming

...have you listened to the latest Mars Volta album? Pridgen MAKES that album, IMO. Just because it's crazy doesn't mean it's not musical. It just needs to be in the proper context (i.e. on a Mars...

Re: Most you've paid for a lesson?

I'm currently taking private lessons with a local instructor (who has studied with Gregg Bissonette and Jeff Hamilton), and he is helping me TREMENDOUSLY. The "big name" will be a one-time lesson,...

Re: Most you've paid for a lesson?

He is, the guy's askin $120. With the crappy economy and cost of living going up everywhere, it doesn't seem too bad.

Most you've paid for a lesson?

I've been in contact with a big-name drummer (I won't name names yet), and I was caught a bit off-guard when I found out his hourly lesson rate. I'm not necessarily surprised that it was a lot, but...

Philly drum tech needed

Hey guys,
Can anybody here suggest a studio drum tech in the Philadelphia/South Jersey area? It's a paid gig. Thanks so much for helping in my long and painful search haha.

Re: Shooting a music vid tomorrow

By playing the video at 75% and 150%, you can get some cool visual effects.

i.e. If you play it at 75%, then speed up the video to match the tempo of the audio, you'll look like you're moving...

Finding a drummer/percussionist

Hey all,
My band is looking for a new percussionist, so I wanted to know if anyone could lead me to some good places to start. We've been trying Craigslist, but I know there must be more outlets...

Re: Giving drum lessons

For what it's worth, I have a degree in music and I STILL don't think I'm good enough to teach. ESPECIALLY with newbies. Just my $0.02.

They're great for most of my practicing, rehearsing and recording....

Re: Marron5 on Americn Idol (Why additional drums!!)

Another possibility is that having the full kit on stage might be part of his endorsement contract. After a little Wiki search, I found out he (Matt Flynn) is a Yamaha artist. I've wondered the same...

So glad to hear it went well! I've played a handful of gigs up at the Weathervane (though we're based in Philly), and I love that place. Haven't been there since the summer though :-( but hopefully...

Re: Making jazz sound interesting...

I don't know if I'd say it would be hopeless. Try to expose them to some stuff outside of "traditional" (to the layman's ear) jazz. Sadly, to a lot of people jazz is Kenny G. Maybe they've heard the...

Oddly enough, I was just about to post the same question. I recently started working on the free stroke in lessons, and trying to apply it during band rehearsals. I know I'm not answering your...
