Re: Name famous songs where the drummer overplays

I think there's a lot of over playing going on in 'In The Wake Of Poseidon' by King Crimson

Re: Drum Beat - Love will lead you back - Taylor Dayne

There's a shaker playing 16ths in the verse, I think that's what's throwing you off. If I had to play this song, I would play quarter notes on the ride and 16ths on the hi hat, kind of like the...

Re: can the quality of your throne affect your playing?

Ab-so-lute-ly. It is VERY true, please don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

The throne, to me, is the most important part of the drum kit, yet the most overlooked. You need a good throne because...

Songs with fast / tricky single bass drum patterns

Hey everybody, been really solidifying my bass drum technique for the past 6 months and there's definitely some improvement. I'm compiling a list of song that I can practice to that fit the criteria...

Re: What's the best pedal technique study?

Hey Dre25! I think you might gain a lot from Pedal Control by Famularo/Bergamini/Chamberland, already mentioned here. I've been working out of that book since January and it has been helping me...

Re: I don't know whether to take this tour or not

You listed down 2 things that have to do with your girlfriend in the 'cons' section and this obviously shows that she is an important part of your life and an important determining factor to all of...

Re: How much of your practice time do you spend on one limb at a time?

I spend an hour on my left foot alone. 30 minutes on my left hand. Then 30 minutes on left foot and left hand coordination. I used to spend 2 hours on my left foot.

Re: Modern Drummer's list of 25 timeless drum books - How many of these have you used?

Out of the 25, I have glossed over:

1. Buddy Rich's Modern Interpretation of the Rudiments
2. The Encyclopaedia of Double Bass Drumming
3. 4 Way Coordination
4. All of Gary Chaffee's Patterns...

Re: Advice for a beginner

I also say 'get a teacher'. You can even study with famous/established drummers via Skype, that would be money well spent.

Re: What makes a band?

Well, it is a cover band. The singer does somewhat have "a look", is ok with the stage. I just want to play the songs... that compensate for other people, you know?

Re: What makes a band?

Ok, problem is is that the singer is also the bandleader. So should I just leave the band?

Re: Sick sweat minor 9th drum harmony

That's why I said "scientifically". I don't know about "well-defined".. you can certainly get close. All double headed drums, when struck, produce overtones.

What makes a band?

I say 2 things. A good singer and a good drummer.

But what if you had a good drummer but not so good singer? What do you do?

I found that most of the time, the musicians I usually play with...

Re: Sick sweat minor 9th drum harmony

Scientifically, it is impossible for any drum to have an absolute pitch. This is is because drums have not one but two drum heads. If you were using a single headed tom like Phil Collins did in the...

Re: live band click tracks

^ This is definitely the easiest and cheapest way of doing this, if you already have an iPod or other mp3 player (which I'm sure you do). Mini mixers and DIs are super cheap and very useful for many...

Re: How do -you- practice?

I agree with Dave Major. It is imperative to go into the practice room WITH A PLAN. If you don't have one, you will be wasting a lot of time and wonder why you're not advancing.

I would suggest...

Re: Playing to click - the mechanics

I disagree with it being "a really controversial issue". Why? I've played TV gigs which required playing to a click, it was mandatory. And what about backing tracks? You will need to be able to play...

Re: Best Home Recording Software for Roland TD-4KP Portable E-Kit

The interface, meaning the TD 4 Drum module? I own a TD 4 and honestly, the sounds aren't that great. You would be better off getting a drum software like Superior Drummer and EX Drummer and using...

Re: Best Home Recording Software for Roland TD-4KP Portable E-Kit

Depends on your needs, budget and which platform you use (Mac or PC). I use Logic X on a Mac, $199.00 on the App Store. If you like freebies, check out Presonus Studio One Free which works for both...

Re: Playing to click - the mechanics

I am going to answer your question instead of steering you away from your initial query. I would recommend getting a simple mixer, microphone and in ear monitors to accomplish this. How much you want...
