Re: Ringo Starr Plays the Song

It does not matter to me what the drummer is doing if I don't like the songs themselves. There are so many fantastic players that I rarely listen to because of the genre, or the songs, or the...

Re: Letting go vs focusing

If I don't focus and intentionally think about pushing the beat, I tend to unknowingly lag behind the beat too much. A couple of weeks ago I tried to "let go" and not intentionally push myself, which...

Re: Learned something interesting...

Hi SpareRib!

I'm curious as to how your kit was miked for the Tascam? Do you think you would tune this way for a live gig?

I know there are a lot of threads on keeping the top heads tighter...

Re: Video: Louie Bellson and Steve Gadd in Studio

Awesome! 2 of my heroes! The other guys with them aren't too shabby either. Hehe...

Bellson was one reason why I purchased Remo drums. If they were good enough for him…well...

Re: Snare buzz help - sorry

I'm no expert, but I do believe that deeper snare drums have more of a tendency to produce snare buzz. At least that has been my own experience. My piccolo snare hardly has any snare buzz compared to...

Re: Doug Clifford’s 1969 CCR Drum Kit on Museum Display

Ah! True.

I do remember that he was asked in Modern Drummer several years ago the cymbals he used on CCRs records. He did not give specific sizes or models, but just that the first 2 records were...

Re: Doug Clifford’s 1969 CCR Drum Kit on Museum Display

Thanks for that, Mr Fish!

I am a big fan of Clifford. CCR was my favorite band as a kid.

I always loved Clifford's drum sound.

As far as his cymbals are concerned, I really liked his...

Re: Ghost Drummer for Kiss, Jimi, Alice Cooper etc

Though I read this in Modern Drummer (I think) many years ago, and is not about a particular drummer being replaced, I still find it pretty interesting and relevant to this thread. Lionel Ritchie...

Re: Tuning

A concert tom has only one head and it sounded that bad? Hmmm.

I haven't actually tried it yet myself. It seems most people who responded to him on youtube had great results. I usually like my...

Re: Tuning

There is a simple tuning method, and I know you've already heard of it. It's called Evans 360 drumheads. :)

Re: Tuning

Hi Hollywood Jim,

So true. There are loads of opinions.

I actually like a bit of overtone, or even lots of overtone, that may sound weird from the drum throne. I think the drums sound better...

Re: To mention or not to mention?

A lot of modern worship music has drumming that is played in a very busy style, and I don't care for most of it. It is "in" to play a lot of notes. To me, it makes the music messy and it sounds lousy...

Re: To mention or not to mention?

I think some people don't want to appear too negative in church and so they may "over praise" the new guy or girl to show their support, and to make the new musician feel good and at home. I wouldn't...

Re: Remo Quduras

The Remo's with those type of lugs were "Encore's." I don't have any experience with them, but I know some pro's out there used them (i.e. Terry Bozzio). I own a Remo Master Touch and Master Edge kit...

Re: Anyone use multiple rides?

I always want 2 rides when I play. I like to use a regular all-purpose ride and a flat ride too. I love the flat for the real mellow stuff and the other for more volume. I never could figure out why...

Re: The Mysterious Freddie Gruber

I always thought that the magic of Gruber was his unusual way of analyzing a particular drummers habits and methods and showing that particular drummer how he can improve or change it to make playing...

Re: Traditional Grip

That video also reveals that there is no need to tilt your snare away from you to play traditional grip, which some drummers still recommend. Or maybe they don't anymore...I don't know... :)

Re: Songs that change BPM

The number one hit by the Bee Gees "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" seems to fluctuate the tempo at certain spots. Or is it my imagination? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTQiT58AbE0
