Re: Do You Think...

Well, one has to define how exactly were' judging.

In terms of the hysteria of Beatlemania, no.

The Beatles had the benefit of rock still being a relatively new music at the time, the concept...

Re: Bent Sweet Ride - How Much Would You Pay?

The thing is a salesperson at GC is not the owner of the cymbal. They have no power to price things as what they are worth. They are limited to what the computer system says it's worth.

As for...

Re: Hey Joe: Great drumming or overplaying?

^ This.

It was done by many before Hendrix. There is a debate just over who wrote it.

As for the drumming on the Hendrix, version, well, at the risk of...

Re: Arthritis in Foot - Looking for Kick Drum Alternatives

1) Examine your seat, seat height, and angle on the foot pedal.

Sometimes just a subtle shift in angle can cause significant problems with nerve endings.

Maybe just a new seat or a different...

Re: Stage Fees?

Yes.

The halftime show is considered an advertisement, not entertainment.

Re: Stage Fees?

I don't see the difference.

The dancer/band need the stage, the lights, the PA the club provided DJ/soundman to put on there best show.

Sure, and the band can just play on the street, but it...

Re: Mike Terrana

Wow..I had no idea, and I have been (on and off) following his career since 1990 or so.

Re: Stage Fees?

Sadly, pretty common.

But it comes down to supply and demand.

The supply of bands wanting to play, and the supply of girls willing to dance, far outweighs the demand.

Hence, clubs can...

Re: Mike Terrana

This is true. I've heard many drummers make fun of him.

To an extent, he knows it too. It's why he left the United States and relocated to Northern Europe in the 90's, because he knew his style...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

yes and no.

Chances are the tour ends, and the drummer is just out of a job regardless.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, one of my former teachers was playing with a big name artist,...

Re: Mike Terrana

I saw Mike Terrana with Tony McAlpine back like 91 or 92.

I've met him a few times.

But then he moved to Europe and fell off the radar for a while.

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

Like I said, it's a different mindset when you're not on salary or hourly W2 pay.

Here's an example:
Your day job salary check is the same every week/month/how ever often you get it. Whatever...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

And to add to this, if you read Kenny's book or some of his latest interviews, he'll admit how much he makes per gig/session widely varies. He doesn't even have a set rate for himself, it all depends...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

Look up Jake E Lee with Ozzy. He wrote the Bark at the Moon album, and never got any credit or financial rewards from it. After the follow up album and tour, jake was fired without ever being given a...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

Not surprising.

One of my old drum teachers hit it big with a huge gig with a platinum-selling artist. There were world tours, stadium shows, videos, being on one of the platinum-selling albums,...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

Sounds low if it is truly a big name, but might be right for a not quite so big name.

I've heard of hired guns undercutting each other to get the gig, and/or keep their name out there. Which then...

Re: A disturbing revelation

This.

Mixing styles goes back to the 60's and 70's.

Miles Davis, Santana, The Byrds, and many more came to be from mixing styles.

Jazz itself has it's roots in mixing different very...

Re: Can't take PDP seriously somehow

Hence, why they have different names.

They WANT DW and PDP to be thought of as two different brands.

So, mission accomplished on their part.

Re: I can't buy a high end snare drum

I think this post wins the internet for the day.

Granted, I agree many midline snares sound just as good, if not better than high end. And many high-end snares are only that expensive due to the...

Re: Is it a myth that certain drumming legends have an inimitable 'feel' on the kit?

I was going to say that too.

Way back before the internet told you a new album was coming out months before it did, you could tell Van Halen had a new album on the radio just by the drums.
