Re: What's your latest purchase?

Not sure how it happened as I've been using a 14" share predominantly for a while and been looking at getting another 14" brass snare too, but I've somehow just come home with a 12" X 6" Yamaha...

Re: Albums that had a huge impact on your current playing?

Go West by Go West. Many of the Tom runs by Tony Beard, would end with a slow double on the bass drum before a crash cymbal. He also would crash a beat behind where youíd expect someone to crash....

Re: The Choice to Play the Drumset

Following the example of fellow members I think itís easier to freestyle it than have to fit answers into preconceived options.
At around the age of 14, me and my mates decided that we were going to...

Re: Creative/minimalist kick drum muffling ideas?

Re tuning, I've used an Emad and unported front head for years now on various sized bass drums and gotten a lovely round full sound out of all of them unmicd. However the moment a drum mic comes into...

Re: Creative/minimalist kick drum muffling ideas?

Evans EMad on the batter side, my (or in your case preferably your) rolled up hoodie placed against the resonant head. Quickly and easily adjustable to increase or decrease the damping, has allowed...

Re: Counting off the song w/banter

I think we need to recognise that neither option is always right.
In my Classic Rock band we have the bare minimum of between song speaking, partly because our singer is very shy. Thereíll be a...

Re: Counting off the song w/banter

Banter can be great and it can be terrible, you have to get the balance right.
Talk about it together, it’s probably not the case (then again it might be) but maybe he thinks he’s doing the right...

Re: Mapex Armory's

My local shop regularly emails out their Sale Club prices.
Currently they've got a new ex dispaly Armoury in 12", 14", 16" and 22" sizes (not sure if its a one up two down or a one up one down with...

Re: DRUM DAMPENING

We've only recently started putting my bass drum and snare drum through our PA. We don't have a bass bin but the two powered tops we have deliver enough oomph that the bass drum certainly gets felt...

Re: Dunnett acrylic kit really worth $4000?

Is that a kick patch on the pictured bottom head of the bass drum?
If so itís either ridiculously low or ridiculously high up the batter head.

Re: Almost lost my cymbals

I know that black nylon can take the scuffs and scrapes and dirty floors associated with moving gear to and from gigs, but surely given that a lot of moving and packing is done in dark environments...

Re: How do you know when to crash?

Donít crash.
Iíve cut right back on crashing after seeing too much of the same old same old. Crashing at the end of a fill often comes across (to me) as a lazy option or a way of masking the gap...

Re: What is the cleverest instruction given to you by a music director?

As a pub band player we donít have a musical director.
However the most useful, as opposed to cleverest, instructions a band member gives me or I give to my fellow band members are ďthe magic snareĒ...

Re: New Drums from Mapex

This is really interesting to me.
Since I started playing drums various companies have sold (& drummers have bought) the ďbenefitsĒ of isolating mounting systems, undrilled bass drums etc etc. Try...

Re: The Art of Drumming - TV Show

In the first week they also followed it with an excellent documentary ďMy View: Clem BurkeĒ which is pretty self explanatory, thatíll probably be available on demand too.
FYI Steve White is doing a...

Re: Drummerís Place In Band

I think itís less to do with being a drummer and more to do with your overall contribution along with the other members of the band youíre in.
If youíre not contributing an awful lot then itís not...

Re: When you become the Craigslist flake.

Ive sold a lot of stuff, mainly non drum related but drums too, on eBay since about 2004. Touch wood Iíve never been conned out of items, I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of people...

Re: Is made in the US really that much better?

I once had to steel my nerves and say the same thing on here, it does strike me as being a bit racist or xenophobic.
I completely get people being brand loyal and having attachments that make no...

Re: Pork Pie Siam Oak kit?

First of all, donít get hung up on wood species. It took me probably a year to get over the fact that the Gretsch Catalina Club is made of Philippine mahogany/Luan. When I finally took the plunge and...

Re: Need help with memorizing songs and cymbal crashes

To answer the question as asked I will say listen to the song over and over again so itís ingrained in your memory and then practice it over and over again. And/or Chart it out or create your own way...

Re: Gigging with a Ludwig Accent?

If it's got the Pearl style L arm Tom mounts then they're fairly bulletproof, worrying about threads stripping and lugs snapping could make a person go mad. Where does it stop? Are mid range kits no...

Re: Decided to try this new look!

Could you buy, or have you got spare, a pair of legs that you could take the rubber feet off, insert the legs ďupside downĒ into the leg blocks and cut the legs to the correct length? Iím thinking...

Re: Influencing people close to you with music

I wasnít drumming when I met my wife so after 14 years together it came as a bit of a shock when I got myself a kit and joined a band. 12 years later she still has very little interest in live music...
