Re: Gavin Harrison here!

So you actually change heads individually, instead of changing all drums at once?

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Hi Gavin

As a fan of Pineapple Thiefs album Your Wilderness I was looking forward to hearing the new album, and I've listened to it quite a few times so far. I just wanted to tell you I love your...

Re: Play linear triplets like Matt Garstka - drum lesson

Well done! Sounds great, looks cool. Reminds me a lot of the 80/20 drummer :).

Re: Our dance band was hired as background music

Perfect! And I'm sure you know your name means black in German, right?
Or is it common knowledge even? Except that it's only schwarz, without the t.

Re: Are We Just Being Silly?

Oh: no it's not silly at all! Hitting things may be silly per se, but we've come
a long way making this silly thing quite sophisticated, haven't we?

Re: Are We Just Being Silly?

Well that's one great advice for life!! Plus I believe that any part of life
inspires the other parts, and growing in many aspects of life is kind of a
multiplicator, instead of "just" growing in...

Re: One Drum Set Vs Several Drum Sets?

I agree :).

Some more advantages of having two kits:

I've had days with multiple events, say more than one gig, or a rehearsal and a gig etc., and I had to bring a kit to all of them. So I was...

Re: Which do you enjoy most: Playing by yourself, jamming with others, or playing live?

I think I need all of them! I need the interaction with other musicians, I need
live audiences, and I need time with my instrument all by myself with noone
listening.
There's also a fourth...

Re: Get better Andy!

I just had private lessons with Claus Hessler yesterday, for the fourth time or so.
If you're interested in asking anything technical (or anything music, or life in
general :) ), and if you happen...

Re: At which point do polyrhythms stop sounding cool and start sounding academic?

I believe you may confuse polyrhythms with odd groupings. In a polyrhythm, the
5 notes and the 4 notes start simultaneously and are evenly spaced in a certain
length, i.e. one quarter note (in this...

Re: At which point do polyrhythms stop sounding cool and start sounding academic?

But polyrhythms do resolve constantly, and even if you don't play one of the two
notes that are in unison, they still are there.

I don't think a 20/8 has anything to do with a 5 against 4...

Re: At which point do polyrhythms stop sounding cool and start sounding academic?

Everything by Tigran Hamasyan is fine for me :).

I think it's no different than other aspects of music: An idea, a rhythm, a polyrhythm etc.
has to be beautifully placed in the context of a good...

Re: What are some of the coolest beats tha you've ever heard?

Nice choice!

Two programmed ones come to my mind that I always found so cool:

Re: Weezer plays Rosanna..

I like Weezer, and their first albums (blue, Pinkerton, green and Make Believe) are still on my playlist from time to time.
Those songs are great for drum students (kids I mean), I use them...

Re: We are the product of our influences

I think that there is a great portion of "ourselves" in our playing too, no matter how
many influences we undoubtedly have, and how strong they are. Possibly the "self"
varies from one drummer to...
