Re: dying to be heard..

You are missing the point! I'm old. Facing my own mortality (60s are getting up there)
Why would I re-learn vibes for example, I played them 40 years ago in college, have to buy a set, and no one...

Re: Anyone ever tried anything similar to this?

I really enjoyed that a lot. I tried to post on youtube but it's crazy right now, sorry.
You should have 10,000 hits not 20,,it was worth it. Yes, I have done the same thing before, years ago, but...

dying to be heard..

I need to do something. Granted my hearing has deteriorated some, but I can still play. I wear a hearing aid in the real world, watch tv with close captioning, yep, it's just about gone. I've had a...

Clinic on local TV

A clinic I did this Spring is scheduled to appear on local TV this August. Two videographers (both drummers) shot me doing a school clinic and arranged for it to appear locally. The viewing area is...

Re: Future of Music

I remember worrying about this in the 70s. By the late 70s, there was no reason for live music anymore, everything could be done digitally so much easier. I though Reggae music would be a savior, but...

Re: Attention Tune-Bot Owners!

I am an extremely melodic drummer, and I have to say no the tunebot concept. First, I have 20 toms I have to tune quickly to a pitch before a show or clinic. I don't have time to check every lug. I...

Re: What is melodic soloing?

Thanks for the kind words! None of the vocabulary is mine, it's all from old music theory classes.
Playing a 4 or 5 piece, I tend to revert back to what I use to do before I started this, emphasis...

Re: What is melodic soloing?

Check out any of my youtube videos. Melodic soloing is what I do. Also playing harmonically between toms, octaves, bass lines below the melody in a drum solo...
Even when I'm just fooling around I...

Re: You, then & now. Same guy?

Definitely not the "same guy". Deaf in one ear now (surgury gone bad) mostly deaf in the other has left me no chance of ever playing in a band again.I have to watch movies at home with captioning for...

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Hi,
I'm an old drummer (60+) and grew up listening to greats such as Cobham, Bruford, Gadd, Bozzio. I don't listen to much music anymore at all, it all seems to sound the same for some reason. In...

Re: 2 Things That Have Helped You Improve Most

1) Once I was without a set for 2 months (living with my Aunt for a brief while in California, she worked for Rogers drums and moved to Fullerton in 69, I stayed with her for a couple of months in...

Re: Drum kit components that beginners waste their money on...

I disagree with the whole premise. ANY money spent by a beginner on drumming is a good thing. If a double pedal means he will do what his/her teacher expects for 1/2 an hour every day, then spends...

Re: Bit of a rant

Rent your own hall. Do your own publicity. Have your own bouncers. Even if you lose money you will get lots more exposure, pics, crowd-drawing cred. If you make money, then it's a win-win.

Re: Drum Solos and why you like them, or not

I appreciate the kind words guys, but I'm nothing special. The approach I take to drumming is just different. This thread about drum solos just makes me want to make more drummers aware that a solo...

Re: Why did you start drumming?

Whwn I was in 2nd grade the school I was in gave a "musical aptitude" test to see if you were ready to start on an instrument in the 3rd grade band. At the end of the test was the question, "What...

Re: Drum Solos and why you like them, or not

Since I can no longer play in bands (100%deaf in one ear, partially in the other) doing drum solos is all I do. I do solo concerts, school and store clinics. My set consist of 20 toms pitched to 2...

Re: Which is harder to play drums or guitar?!?!

I fully agree with your last paragraph. I also stand corrected in saying that learning the guitar is limited.
However, anytime someone says that drums are not melodic and you don't need to learn...

Re: Which is harder to play drums or guitar?!?!

It really depends on what you want out of music.
If you want to play along with songs, drums are easier, no question.
If you want to shred, then good guitar players and good drummers have an...
