I've been drumming a long time, and focus a lot...

I've been drumming a long time, and focus a lot on technique and pad work. A couple of hours a day just on technique; I practice slowly and always focus on being relaxed.

However, I struggle...

Mike Dolbear's Rhythm and Fills app

Hi all,

Very excited to report that, for those of you who own this app, the 280-odd audio examples were recorded by yours truly in our Nottingham studios. I'll be named and advertised in the...

Re: semi-quavers over 6/8 clave

It's a transcribed solo. However, as I'm trying to improve my solo ability while maintaining a left foot clave, I make a point of learning everything with the relevent left-foot clave. As this...

Re: semi-quavers over 6/8 clave

Thanks Numberless. However, I working with the "other" 6/8 clave, see my first post for how it's phrased as triplets.

This has inspired me to try and work it out as 16ths though.

Re: Who owns the rights to the Wilcoxon solos?

Why waste your time posting that? I'm doing it as a creative project for the love of it, I don't care who does and doesn't buy it.

Re: Who owns the rights to the Wilcoxon solos?

Really? I just assumed it came under composition, as they're solos in their own rights, as opposed to accompanying parts, as in songs.

Who owns the rights to the Wilcoxon solos?

I'm hoping to do a recording of some classic snare drum solos, with the intent to sell. I understand in most cases that these solos will be public domain, but Wilcoxon only dies 35 years ago.

In...

semi-quavers over 6/8 clave

I'm having a little trouble with this. Basically, I'm learning a jazz solo; it is swung, so 8th notes are swung, but it uses a lot of 16ths and 16th-triplets. That's all fine. The problem is, my left...

Re: Dave Weckl

Speak for yourself. Dave set his ambition to be the best, and he is up there doing that. Some of us have the same ambition, and I'll be damned if someone tells me I'll never make it.

To echo...

While a appreciate all of the replies, I can't help wondering why this thread, started a few years ago, has resurfaced... The gig has long since been and gone, as have others. Hehe...

Re: Introduction to Drum Lessons

Great! Glad it will be of use to somebody. I find myself repeating answers to the same old questions, so hopefully this will go some way to remedying that.

Introduction to Drum Lessons

Hi all,

I've created a document for my new students, welcoming them to the world of drumming. Many new students, their parents especially, have no idea about many aspects of the drums, from...

Re: Sources of inspiration?

For me, inspiration comes from seeing genuine masters performing on the drums. My biggest idol is Vinnie Colaiuta; his playing speaks to me like nothing else, and that is all the inspiration I need....

Re: crazy hands and super hands

1. Yes - it's the way I was taught and now feel most comfortable with. I switch to open handed when context dictates.

2. No, that would be uncomfortable, blocking the rest of the drums.

3....

Re: Does your gear HAVE to be the same brand or do you mix/match?

I tend to match as much as possible. I cannot and will not mix cymbal brands, and my kit is all the same, although I'm open to mixing the snare drum. As for hardware, it just so happens that I bought...
