Re: Ludwig Neusonic

This new line really sounds great. The kits at NAMM had the Taiwanese Remo heads, and still sounded great! I regret not grabbing a kit at the show, but there's always next January. :)

Re: Ludwig Neusonic

Their maple is North American. I recall that even on the Asian-made Centennial kits, they also used N American maple.

Re: Musician vs Artist

I don't mind the term, although to me, in a musical context, it suggests one who actually creates the art. It's also a handy term for a solo headlining performer, such as Ed Sheeran or Joe Bona......

Re: Ludwig P88ac Question

The throw is great, a clear improvement over the previous updated model where the lever was too short, and the knob locked so well, the tension couldn't be adjusted while engaged. They fixed both...

Re: Ludwig P88ac Question

The original plan was to tap both sets of holes on the new butt, which was a smart idea. I don't know why they later decided to not do that.

I'd also recommend tapping it yourself.

Re: Are We Just Being Silly?

I've always considered drumming to be only a part of my life. When someone says 'I live to drum' or 'drumming is my life', I feel sorry that drumming seems so all-consuming for them, as if they have...

Re: Our dance band was hired as background music

Thanks, and I already have a working title:

The Story Behind The Man Behind The Drums Behind The Man Behind The Accordion.

Re: Our dance band was hired as background music

The important thing is, pulling off what you were hired to do, whatever that may be. If the band is hired for its artistic merits, be the best artist you can. If hired to make people dance, play...

Re: Shine Drums

The web site is still up, hard to tell when it was last updated. Somebody's trying to keep the dream alive... or else they paid for hosting several years in advance!

Worse yet, they still have a...

Re: Bars and Churches where else...

Isn't all playing live playing? :)

You can find people to jam with, and find local organized jams to meet other players. Play as if those are gigs in front of audiences, and you're all set!...

Re: Calling all drummers to take a survey!

Tried to answer but question 7 wouldn't accept my "Other" text.

Then the page froze.

Re: NEED HELP WITH SET LIST

There are bunch of catchy, enjoyable, fairly easy-to-play hits from the '90s, lots of one/two-hit-wonder kind of stuff. "Good" by Better Than Ezra immediately came to mind. Pearl Jam, Stone Temple...

Re: Happy Birthday Dom

Dom is a sweetheart, and quite a good drummer! I've known him for some time, at least as far back as I go with Sabian (1993.)

Dom interviewed me for the Sessions videos, and I just approved the...

Re: Drum fills

It varies. Sometimes the music dictates and guides my fill style, and sometimes specific fills are always used in specific places (tied to a guitar lick, or horn punches, for example.) Sometimes I...

Re: Fair price new Ludwig Legacy Maple 4 pc 2 up 1 dn?

I would agree that used (in this case) is a better value.

The Legacy maple is modeled after the "clear maple" era Ludwigs, c1969-75. But with just about any used drum, you have to inspect and...

Re: How do you switch from matched grip to cross stick?

Easy for me: I play matched grip and my snare hand with the butt end. It's always ready to go!

Re: Anyone ever switch your "brand loyalty?" (Mid-life crisis for me?)

I'm loyal to a product as long as it serves me well, or until I find something preferable. I keep my eyes, ears, and mind open, and always try new stuff just to see where I'm at with my current...

Re: The gig that you turned down and regretted it

I have possibly one regret, although looking back, it may have been more a case of dodging a bullet.

Around 1975/6, I did some rehearsing with a band fronted by Martha Davis. They weren't...

Re: Difficulty with hitting figures at high tempos

A very good suggestion. It's like reading text. You're always looking a few words ahead of the word you're actually reading. That's why sentences tend to flow well even when reading them cold. Music...

What 8mile said...

And, exactly what situations are you in where you are seeing the music for the first time when you perform it? I've had my fair share of music and charts put in front of me...
