Re: Making $ playing drums

If you get into music to make money you're going to be highly disappointed. It's not an easy gig, lots of pitfalls and flakes.... shit man even the "reputable" turn out to be complete jokes...

Re: Crap rehearsal = great gig?

Re: Bad gig, good learning experience.

The thing about hearing is this- You should hear the song internally in your head and play to that, all the while allowing your notes to mesh with the other players. Sometimes you can't hear as deep...

Re: How to stop playing slightly ahead of the beat?

Re: How to stop playing slightly ahead of the beat?

Re: Playing covers vs. playing originals... or both?

If you wanna make a living playing music you will end up playing cover tunes at some point.

Then again, I made a pretty nice living playing OPM (Other People's Music) for 25 years. Then the...

Re: Drummer- the only musician that can't mess up?

I make tens of mistakes every time I play. Slight miscalculations and sometimes really, really huge ones!

It's how you recover from those mistakes is what saves you. So remember "Do it once, it's...

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

I am definitely not a DM drummer, but I've taught a pretty notable one. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p42Yr4dsqEs) That being said, there's a fine line... well maybe NOT that fine a line between...

Re: Why doesn't anyone make quieter drums?

Wanna learn how to play quiet? Get a restaurant gig with a fire breathing dragon of a chef. That'll learn ya.

Seriously that's how I learned. You begin to see the dynamic ceiling as if it were a...

Re: I've perfected "Drum-bombing", LMAO...

Re: I've perfected "Drum-bombing", LMAO...

Know what? As I was editing this tonight I noticed the irony in her mannerism; I must have detected her reaction to something completely ridiculous so I played the triplet shuffle against the groove...

Re: Are you in shape

For the most part, yes. I try and walk to the gym a few times a week (5mi round trip + the workout) and I play drums most every day for at least an hour.

But my nemesis is having to sit all the...

Re: Traditional grip pain

I got a big gnarly callous that I have to sand down about twice a week, more if I'm playing all the time.

Re: The drummers who just go for it

It's great that so many players can "just go for it" but why celebrate illiteracy of any kind? Are you trying to prove it to yourself or to convince us that expanding your knowledge is a bad thing? ...

Re: How do you hear it all?

I just play by radar now. After 30 years of subjective monitor mixes, sometimes the soundguy who seems to be on his menstrual cycle and the "throw and go" sets where you literally throw your gear...

Re: Keeping stands/drums in the same position

I have everything Memori-loc'd and use DW Dogbones. I can eyeball everything for the most part because it's all about setting angles, not heights or tilts.

If you gotta mark something use a paint...
