Shell building
Hey everyone, long time no see.
Can anyone reference a good place to learn how to build drum shells? I've been thinking about building myself another floor tom, and later maybe a whole kit. Thanks!

Lack of Playing
It seems like the only time I've been playing my drums is when I play with my band, which is once a week. I don't do it during the weekdays anymore, and it's worrying me. Maybe it's because I'm too...

I'm sure some of you are aware that Danny drums for another band full time— the Pigmy Love Circus. This is some straight up in-your-face rock n' roll. Danny's drumming on their most recent album,...

Re: THE DOUBLE BASS TECHNIQUE THREAD
Hmm... I've seemed to go to the absolute limit on my double pedal. I use a Pacific standard 400 single-chain drive pedal. Would I need an upgrade to get faster? I've been using this pedal for the...

Re: Danny Carey
At the end of Danny's solo, when it climaxes to his insane snare/tom/bass fill— is that the Gadd-Triplet fill with added double-bass notes? That's how I've always played it.

Re: why do i lean back w/ double bass?
I tend to keep my back straight in a good posture— the way your spine is meant to be. It helps your balance, and just... works! Sometimes I'll lean, but I try to keep my back as straight as possible....

Re: Dave Grohl
He was one of my first inspirations when I started drumming. He's got a good style, and it was perfect for Nirvana. He's very humble, not egotistical at all. He's a great drummer and guitarist.

Re: 101 tips for drummers you shoulda bin tol'
Tip #21
Stretch before and after every gig (and/or practice time). It will help you warm and loosen up. Drumming is like a sport, you must know what muscles you are using and you must keep them in...

Ah, Mr. Freese. Great, creative drummer. I heard the instrumental clip on his DW page and was astonished. His APC stuff is great too— goes perfect with the music.

His father was a mason. Danny discovered this when he spyed on his father performing a masonic ritual with a sword. I don't know if that answers your question, Danny is not a mason and to the best of...

Re: Neil Peart
That's part of Peart's playing. You can't just go to a concert and expect the band to improvise and change every song on their set. Sometimes it's good just to hear what you're hearing on the CD. You...

Re: Joey Jordison
Eh, Joey's not that great. I saw his solo on that DVD... it got boring after the first minute. All it was was double bass and rolls. All crowd-pleasers.

I have yet to hear Bittner's drumming.

I've been playing double bass for about a year and a half. I'm at the point where I can play any Slayer song comfortably. So I'd say I'm pretty fast with my feet. Just like everyone else says, it all...

The unicursal hexagram is a six-pointed star drawn in one motion (hence, "unicursal"). It is mainly used in the Occult (which Danny has a peculiar interest in). This was Aleister Crowley's sign,...

Jon Theodore's a great drummer. I own The Mars Volta's most recent album, Frances the Mute, and his drumming is very creative. Works perfectly in TMV's progressive setting.
Also, his...
