wow. I had to keep looking at that. I thought the black line was a piece of thread or string. Totally in the dark . But yes, bearing edge. Resonance makes for better sound.

Check out Ed Shaunessy, drummer for the NBC Orchestra for Johnny Carson, or Doc Sevrenson, trumpet player and leader of the NBC orchestra. They did a lot of big band stuff. I'm sure they must be on...

You don't say why you would want to upgrade the hoops. They are light and provide resonance which should be perfect for the jazz gig.

Cymbal stands with no felt or wing nut on top is not a problem to me and the tom sitting on the rubber of the snare basket would take a while to harm the bearling edge unless it was so loose it slide...
