Re: Tama Backrest Conflicting Info

My one folds. I don't see why they would have changed it, as it's the best backrest design I have come across. My one has the "1st Chair" logo so is a little older.

Re: Why do drummers need rides?

Modern 'punk' doesn't have a lot of ride. It's all crashes, crashed rides and hats.

Listen to Dave Grohl, Pennywise, Travis Barker, Propagandhi, Strung Out, there's ride cymbal all through that...

Re: Help an old dog learn a "new" trick

I would play it Snare-rack-floor-kick. Or R-L-R-K

I think the resonance you can hear is just the floor tom ringing out. And I think it's easier to get the placement of the kick right this way as...

Re: Anyone ever have this happen to them? Hope not.

Waking up to this was kind of a big deal for me. The Ataris have been my favourite band for over ten years and I'm not sure whether to be shocked about this or not. They have a turbulent past as a...

Re: I Need a Device to measure my tempo while playing

That's not really the case. The beat bug gives you useful feedback whenever you're playing 2&4 on the snare, which for me is 80% of the gig. I don't stare at it the whole time, but just glance over...

Re: I Need a Device to measure my tempo while playing

Found an old thread where I shared some of my thoughts:
http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93310

In short, if most of your set is below about 200bpm - you will benefit from it. ...

Re: Drumming with a band. How do you handle it?

Most of your questions can be answered by studying the music you are trying to play.

Re: Urgent advert help please

I'm assuming the graphic designer is going to be building the ad, and this is just your rough example?

Immediate opinion - The placement of the photos and text is a mess. Most of the real estate...

Re: Anything wrong with a 24" kick?

It's actually not that good for metal. At least not contemporary metal. Those guys tend to favour smaller diameters. If you can learn different ways to muffle it and get some different beaters I...

Re: Double bass - getting maximum power

No I wasn't, I was using a Pearl single chain/baby Eliminator thing. Bought the Demon used on a whim, can't wait to get rid of it now! Also picked up some Danmar Red Ball Beaters, which are far...

Re: 15 for tickets to Aaron Spears UK clinic

Or maybe they want to keep numbers down? Perhaps Aaron prefers a smaller crowd for his clinics.

Re: Some band advice please guys :)

Reinvent the band, but keep the keyboardist handy, you never know when he may be available for the odd gig.

I once had a jam with a covers band that included a keytarist, so I see where you're...

Re: Two lessons in 'importance'

The Thomas Lang video was soooo boring.

Steve Jordan just improvised a short film.

Re: I am now painfully aware of the importance of carrying a backup snare.

Spare snare, kick batter, kick pedal, and hi hat clutch because dropping the nut that holds the cymbal on a dark stage SUCKS.

Re: HARDEST drum set beat(s)/grooves you know?

Not the hardest, but far from easy:

There is a transcription floating around, if you want it let me know and I'll hunt it down.

Re: How to take care of the interior of my Saturn (wallnut) Drum

Did you buy this kit new? Mapex have a lifetime warranty on their shells, but if you do ANYTHING to the shell like oiling the interior, you'll void that warranty. I would send an email to Mapex...

Re: Seeing bad bands

Thankfully smoking in bars became illegal a few years ago over here. The few times I did have to experience it, it was god awful. I don't mind smokers, smoking, and even smoke myself sometimes, but...

Re: Book of all Sticking Permutations?

I think a better approach is to take a reading text, using the rhythm as an accent pattern, and filling in the spaces with whatever combination of notes you choose. This way you are actually playing...

Re: Mapex Saturn: Quality & Price Question

I work at a music shop, and when customers ask what kind of kit I have, the only ones who don't have an "I don't know what that is" look on their face are the youngest guys who can be assumed spend...

Re: Wood snares

Haha...yeah I was totally joking. That is a 16x16 philharmonic snare that I saw in a Pearl orchestral catalog. The only good wooden snare I have owned is a 14x6.5 Saturn. It gets all the gigs...
