Re: Sonor Vintage Series

I recently purchased a 20/12/14 Sonor Vintage Series set in Onyx ( stain black) and have had a chance to use it in a Big Band setting and a Club gig setting ( play Rock covers) and I am really...

Re: Everyone tells me NOT to buy a kit with a 24" bass drum! (24"BD owners, please comment!)

I am a relatively recent convert to the attributes of the 24" bass drum.
I ave been a long time fan of 20" bass drums and have owned 16",18"and 22" bass drums as well. I wanted to get a larger bass...

Re: Yamaha Recording Custom (the rare ones!)

This finish was introduced after a request by Peter Erskine to have Yamaha make a drum set to match the finish of his Mercedes. These actually don't look that bad in person.

Re: Silver Sealer

It is Aluminum fence paint, initially adopted to cover imperfections in the inner ply of the shell. Personally I find it hideous and I would never use clear heads on the Gretsch kits I have owned in...

Re: Im torn!! new kit

I would definitely go with the new Tama Birch/Walnut over the Pearl. My local shop has a kit in stock and it really sounds impressive. The walnut inner plies really enhance the bottom end .

Re: INDe Aluminum snare?

I bought the 6.5” and 5” models a few years ago. I sold my Ludwig 402 (6.5”) and Yamaha Recording Custom 5” after getting the INDe aluminum. The INDe 6.5” is the real gem. The first gig I took it to...

Re: Taye Studio Maple

Taye Studio Maples drums sound fantastic , the hardware leaves a lot to be desired ( especially the double tom mount - massive and heavy and a knuckle cruncher). The drums have very nice thin maple...

Re: Ludwig Copper Phonic vs. Hammered Bronze

I purchased a 5 x 14 Ludwig Copperphonic when they first came out and I found they had a definite sweet spot where they sounded very good. I also found that sweet spot to be limiting as it did not...

Re: Your Favorite COB Snare

I have owned Ludwig COB and Rogers Powertone COB and Slingerland and they are all fine drums, but I prefer the black nickle plated Ludwig Black Beauty.
The Black Beauty's nickle plating is thinner...

Re: The Slingerland Set-O-Matic

I have a 5 ply Niles Slingerland kit with a single Set-O-Matic tom mount and it has been rock solid for me. I have no issues whatsoever with it. Sorry to hear some others have not had the same...

Re: Best Budget Bop Kit?

Everything pictured came with the kit. I did not purchase the snare, as I have a Benny Greb signature snare that I use with this kit. The sparkle lacquer finish is really well done, edges are nice...

Re: Best Budget Bop Kit?

Another vote for the Sonor AQ2 series. I bought the pictured Safari model kit for use in rehearsals with my Big Band and small or dodgy room gigs. It is a great sounding kit for an excellent price. I...

Re: Second Hand Ludwig Legacy Maple

Bring a drum key and a measuring tape. Remove the heads, check for delamination, run your finger along the bearing edges to check for smoothness. Measure each drum from different angles to endure...

Re: A Lesser Kit For Gigging?

I play any of my kits at any type of gig. I like playing good sounding instruments regardless of whether they are expensive or not. I gig at least 8 times a month and add in another 4 rehearsals a...

Re: Second Hand Ludwig Legacy Maple

As stated earlier there is little sonic difference between a 20 x 16 and 20 x 14.
Grab the drums if they appeal to you.

Re: Thoughts on compact Kit

Rattlin Bones beat me to it, I was also going to suggest the Sonor AQ2 Safari Kit. It is an excellent sounding kit for a good price.

Re: DW Collectors Maple vs Jazz Cherry/Gum: Anyone Try Both Yet?
