Re: Best Sounding Snare I have ever Heard

Yeah, I think I might be in the market for a 1960s era Artist snare.

Re: Best Sounding Snare I have ever Heard

Of course that concert CD was a series over a number of years, but here is an excerpt video from A Show of Hands which shows a Ludwig set with what looks like a Slingerland snare, albeit, not his...

Re: Best Sounding Snare I have ever Heard

It has definitely sparked my interest in vintage Slingerland snares.

I found this on Peart's Slingerland snare:

If that...

Best Sounding Snare I have ever Heard

I picked up an old CD at a thrift store that I had owned ages ago from Rush called A Show of Hands. It is a 1980s live album. I was listening to Peart's snare, thinking my God that thing sounds...

Re: Ringo Starr

Some drummers rip into Ringo as a simpleton drummer. I think where they miss the boat is that you have to put the Beatles into context. Their trademark that swept across the globe were those...

Re: Danny Seraphine

Danny was probably my biggest influence when I was learning to play. I still enjoy listening to the early Chicago songs

Re: Jeff Porcaro

I love listening to him on Dire Straits' Heavy Fuel. Jeff lays an awesome groove to that song.

Re: Ringo Starr

Ringo brought a rhythmic style into drumming that he never really got proper credit for, IMO. People confuse him with conservative pocket drummers. Listen to "I feel fine" or some of his later stuff...

Re: Rodney Holmes

Yeah, I was just surfing youtube for Santana stuff when I happened across that. I love the way Rodney makes it all look so effortless.

Re: Bass solos. Crank 'em up?

I find it entertaining and fun to play. Thumping, slapping whatever you want to call it, I think it seperates the rhythmic styles from the more melodic ones, and everybody has their preferences. But...

Re: Bass solos. Crank 'em up?

I liked that. Subtle, and it sounds like she has a bit of influence from Marcus Miller. He is another of my favorites.

However, if a louder bass solo is what ye seek:

Re: What on earth is wrong with society!

It seems to me that the people that we have reviewing music are all too often not musicians, whereas sports retains ex-athletes at least as advisors. Instead of discussing drop D tunings, harmonies,...

Re: Bonhams drum kit tuning....interesting info!

I like your approach, and find that tuning to notes at the proper intervals gives a great sound, especially during fills. I found it in the drum tuning thread, and my set is still tuned that way. ...

Re: RUSH!

Here's another one. I wish they all the Rush videos were drum cam:

It's amazing how that wall of sound can eat those 18" Paragon crashes.

Very nice vintage set!. If you ever want to add a set of vintage Paiste white label Giant Beats, keep your eye on the buy/sell section at cymbalholics.com. I see more vintage GBs over there than I...

Re: Vintage Ludwig Drums.. What do I got?

Wow, a psych kit with keystone badges! I have only seen the b/o badges on that wrap. Are the insides of the shells painted white? Definitely keep them out of sunlight. Even indirect sunlight.

Re: RUSH!

Is that the place up by Earth City? I looked at their concert schedule and cannot even find St Louis on it. If it's not at Cervantes, I will not make the drive to see it.

Re: Bonhams drum kit tuning....interesting info!

Yes, the maple kit he had on the Danmark Video had the keystone badge if you can find it on Youtube. Checkout page 39 of this article:

Re: What's with the life span of a cymbal anyway?

Having been guilty of this in past lives, I must totally agree. It has nothing to do with "proper technique" and everything to do with the fact that you cannot hear your own cymbals and human nature...
