Re: Buying drums without hearing them first

I think you have chosen wisely and the Supra will give you a lifetime of "go to" service. Solid play.

After five decades of playing drums I finally got around to purchasing two Ludwig snares....

Re: Buying drums without hearing them first

Just stop buying when you hit 13 snares and you'll be safe.

I take it that you would like to do a side-by-side audition of the Ludwig 402 Supra and the Yamaha RC RLS1470. That's a wise move to...

Re: Shell material effect on sound

I forget where I came across this chart--I think Andy may have posted it on this forum--but for what it is worth I'll re-post it here.
But there are a number of factors at play then just the wood...

Re: Could use some advice on buying from overseas/customs etc.

I've had no issues ordering items from overseas (drums, microphones, etc). Smaller items purchased from UK have typically been shipped via Royal Mail, larger items have been shipped FedEx...

Re: Ludwig stops selling new throw P-85ac

I had an 8" Black Beauty come with the P-88AC (photo left) and so far it's been fine. Going to ride it out and see how it does.
I just picked up a 5" Black Beauty that came with a P-85 strainer and...

Re: piccolo snare (pros and cons)

Excellent advice already posted here. I would say stick to a deeper shell to start with and get the tuning you like for your band. Get a size that will give you a more diverse tuning range.
Only...

Re: Drum construction splitting hairs geek out stuff (Andy alert)

Larry--congrats on the two new Guru additions! I have no clue on how to respond to your questions and am looking forward to Andy's expertise here.

Not to hijack the thread, but the only thing I...

Re: Who decals their cars?

No decals on my vehicles. That's only inviting the criminal element to rob you blind at a gig or to follow you home to stake out robbing your home.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

My first Black Beauty ever. B-Stock floor demo 8" X 14" in pristine condition.
I'd been considering a second 8" deep snare for years. Opted for a brass shell.
Bermuda tipped the scale on this...

Re: Probably getting my kick drum cut down - what size?

I don't think you could go wrong with 14"/15"/16" depth. 15" might be a great balance.

Just make sure you have it done right by someone who knows what they're doing.
I'd have Bill Detamore...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Thanks! Yeah, Andy had an 8-lug Padauk in stock. I didn't think very long about scooping it up. Very special instruments indeed.
