Matt Halpern - Drummer for Periphery

Former drummer for Animals as leaders with Tosin Abasi, now plays for Periphery. For me he epitomises the modern metal drummer: independence, feel, chops, feel, speed, feel, power, dynamics and...

So Red Enemy have a new track up ("Balance")...

And it is absolutely class. Dan "Lango" Lang is incredibly tight on this track (the blasts at the start are insane!) as are all the lads. The production on this new batch of recordings is top...

Re: How to Write good metal/deathcore drum parts and breakdowns.

I'm by no means any kind of expert on this style (or anything for that matter) but I'd recommend:

Go into half time
Crash or China with your lead hand
Follow the guitar parts exactly with...

Re: The British or the Americans?

New Orleans is in America. America wins it as far as I'm concerned. Jazz, rock'n'roll, funk, blues...the list goes on.

Gavin Harrison gets bored by the double kicks and crossover stuff. Fair enough, i can see why and I can;t fault the...
