Re: New vs Classic Supraphonic

My original Supraphonic from 1966 has the baseball bat muffler. My Super Sensitive from the 70's and my Supraphonic from the 80's both have the round, adjustable muffler or tone control.

Re: What happened to marching snares?

GRUNTERSDAD -

Glad to hear someone talk about the subject of marching. The kids I teach in middle school really don't believe me when I tell them that my marching days in the early 70's were...

Re: Finally bought a kit after insane debating....

Beautiful kit!

DW cuts their wraps in a similar way in order for the heads to fit correctly without all the bulk of the wrap. The cut into the outer layer of shell does look a bit unusual. My...

Re: Finishes

I hope that it would be a compliment to a "big-name" drummer to have a kit with the same finish.

If Ludwig did not want you to buy the same finish that Patrick Carney has, they would not offer it...

Re: Vintage Ludwig Floor Tom - Out of Round?

Ditto on the "Ludwig hump". My Ludwig drums from the 60's and 70's have the famous hump. It's almost like genetics.

Re: Looking for a New Kit

jober635 -

There are a lot of great kits on the market - new and used. Take your time to look and listen thoroughly. Happy shopping !!

Re: question! Ltd edition pearl export red glass?

Yep. Black Cherry Glitter appears to be a color that only Guitar Center and Musicians' Friend carries. Since the stores are owned by the same company, I'd say that Xplosive is correct.

Pretty...

Re: Finally-1966 Ludwigs Up and Running

I'm not saying that I don't like the newer drums. They just sound different to me. Different is not bad. When you grow up playing one brand of drum, the sound kind of stays with you.

You'll enjoy...

Re: Finally-1966 Ludwigs Up and Running

BGH -

I love the gold sparkle. OOPS, or "Sparkling Gold Pearl", as they were known in the 60's. The color is always an eye catcher.

Re: Finally-1966 Ludwigs Up and Running

Guys -

I have a set of DW's that I purchased about 2 1/2 years ago. I love the drums, the Blue Glass is beautiful, the sound is... NOT OLD LUDWIGS !!

I own one Ludwig kit from the 60's (my...

Re: Just picked up my first Supra, have some questions...

I still have my original Supra that my dad bought for me in 1966. Baseball bat muffler, and a P-83 strainer. Have not had a moment of trouble out of the P-83 - it is still going strong !!

Re: DW Collectors - Insight Please?

I currently own a DW Collector's Series Maple kit that is 2 years old. I love the kit, but there aren't many that I don't like.

Before I made the purchase, I compared DW alongside several other...

Re: Possible Vintage DW kit- identifying?

The finish is not even close to Black Glass, which is a wrap. The particular finish you have is a lacquer finish called "Black Mirra", and is still available.

Re: Ebay score - Marching Snare Content

Great find ! The older 12X15 marching snare drums sounded like real snare drums, not like a cardboard box.

Re: New drum kit!!!

That price appears to be the going rate for the Performance Series based on the online listings I've seen.

Re: Supraphonic Throw Off Options

The Ludwig P-85 lever bends too easily. The older P-83 strainer contained a much sturdier lever mechanism, and did not have as many issues. My original Supra Phonic snare drum from 1966 has the P-83....

Re: Just Bought a late 60's Luddy Kit

bob-

That is one of the most incredible White Marine Pearl finishes I have ever seen, especially one from the 60's. That finish is usually very yellow after 50 years. CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!

Re: Blue drums anyone?

I've always been partial to blue sparkle drums. The first full drum kit I ever played on was a Ludwig Blue Sparkle. Well, technically, in the 60's, the color was called "Sparkling Blue Pearl".

My...
