Re: Kick sound horrible!

If you are relying on a mic sound, what are you recording in? Because you need to use a low pass filter, that will clean the rumble out. What you do is lower the cutoff frequency of the filter...

Re: Beginner: Issues Reading Music Sheet

I predict the next major issue you will have is being able to read anything complicated and move efficiently because you need to develop a basic sticking method when you learn how to read. You need...

Re: Crack Attack!

i can get the shell to resonate strongly at the fundamental frequency. If I get the reso head tensioned well, I can set up the snare wires so the head tensions on the snare-bed and it reaches a...

Crack Attack!

I finally got a 14x6.5 Reference Snare (wood) to match my kit. It took me quite a bit of time to figure out the best set up for it, because this really isn't like any of my other snares.

With the...

Re: When have you truly 'mastered' a given BPM?

One has truly mastered a given BPM when one can play the piece given them at the correct tempo with all the correct dynamics, even-flowing techinque that is high in musicality, and is on time,...

Re: Double Bass Pedal Techniques

I use the same 'sticking' as when I learned to read drum music on a snare drum--I use my feet in a 'root sticking' pattern when for all notes except triplets, and alternate when there are triplets.

Re: NAMM 2015 - what do you expect to see?

I expect to see a lot of mediocre gear re-skinned and the price increased because it is 'new and improved.'

I also think Pearl is going to change their hardware line. I noticed that they...

Re: Pearl Reference Series Review - does anyone think this is real?

I realize this is an old post, but it deserves to be re-run just for the 'quality' of the youtube review in the OP..

This is absolutely hilarious. If anyone can convince me this isn't a troll,...

Re: Let's Talk Snare Drums

There is definitely something about Brass snares. i've got an 80's pearl 8x14 brass snare from some old kit that I've finally finished setting up. It's got about every aspect of dynamics and tone...

Re: Which Snare Wires to Get

If you have never tried the Remo Renaissance snare batter and snare heads, you might want to try them once if you like a fat, articulate sound. But, yes, there are a lot of combos.

Re: Why does the Vintage drums sound so good???

I thought the vintage kits had much thinner shells? That would make them sound considerably different.

some modern I think sound killer: Sonor Designer Maple Toms and Pearl Reference Mid-Sized...

Re: Which snare wires to get?

Yea, that 1420D sounds killer on every snare i've tried it on. I've got a 1420C and a 1442C ultrasound for the 8x14 brass, to try. Once I nail this 8x14 brass I'm going to work on an 8x14 free...

Re: Which Snare Wires to Get

I'm odd man out. I am still working a 80's pearl 8x14 metal snare with a s-011 strainer, which tensions the wires on both ends.

First figure out the heads. I ended up with a Remo Renaissance...

Re: Practising with a metronome.

You can save yourself a lot of pain and time if you will do 2 things. 1) Learn to read 2) get your basic sticking method nailed along with the reading. It took me 16 weeks to nail it, and playing...

Re: Band members with bad timing

Well, poor meter doesn't distress me too much. I can go with the flow (up to a point) and compensate.

What bothers me is if someone's timing is that bad, then their dynamic accents and control...

Re: Tuning Toms??

I have to agree. I have reference toms--12x8, 13x10, 16x14, and 18x16F. I have all clear ambassadors and they are really open and resonant. The best tuning: Resos all about 72, Batters around...

Re: Working On thomas Lang's Creative Coordination....

I'm not sure what exactly I'm going to work on, I think what ever my teacher says is good to move on. He's got me way farther along than I thought I would be so I will just listen to what he says. ...

...and advanced foot technique. Decided I would give it a try after I met him a few weeks ago at a clinic.

I'm up to my butt in grooves.

My teacher is groove-mad. But I think its a good thing. I've been through lots of different 8th note, 16th note HH groves, as well as 8th, 16th and 1/4 not ride patterns. And its done wonders for...

Natural Resonance Tuning Point For A Snare?

I was wondering if a particular size/depth/material of a snare shell causes it to have a natural resonance that it sounds best at.

I have two snares I've worked on tuning--a 8x14 pearl free...

Re: My Practice Routine--AKA I have no life......

Well, I did play bass in several bands for years, so I do have stage experience. And I don't have enough skills up to play with a band-yet. I figured probably one more year.
