Re: Need Help with New Kit - From the Ground Up

Cascio Interstate is running a 17% off sale. It looks like it would work with the A Zildjian cymbal pack. Their price is a little higher, $699. After the 17% off its $580. Really not a bad deal for 3...

Re: Need Help with New Kit - From the Ground Up

I forgot about that Renown Deal. That is a GREAT price. I would totally buy that over the other kits you are looking at. If you got that kit plus the Zildjian A pack, you'd be at $1540, and you may...

Re: Recording Custom 14 x 8 Snare Drum

That's a good price. The 8" usually sells for about $400US.

Re: Yamaha Studio Custom Drums

Trying to figure out what the OP was looking at is impossible without some pictures. There's no point in even speculating about it. It could literally be anything. As far as the older Yamahas, the...

Re: New York Pro snare drum

I agree. The parts alone are worth $125. This could be some short lived drum maker wanna be. Never heard of New York Pro. It could be a Keller Maple shell, who knows? The build looks decent enough.

Re: Need Help with New Kit - From the Ground Up

I don't really like going to Guitar Center either. Guitar Center/Musicians Friend/Music 123/Woodwind and Brass are all the same company. I have ordered from these places online, with good results....

Re: Recording Custom 14 x 8 Snare Drum

Lacquer. Looks nice from the pics. What's the asking price, if you don't mind saying?

Re: Recording Custom 14 x 8 Snare Drum

That drum was 100% part of the RC line, although Yamaha stopped making the RC snares long ago. They continued on with the toms and kick drums. The wood shelled snares were offered in 5, 6.5, 7 and 8"...

Re: Piece by piece more expensive?

They are able to offer kits in this price range by intentionally limiting the sizes and options. Offering more sizes and options makes things more expensive for the manufacturer. They are in business...

Re: The Ludwig Acrolite

Merry early Christmas to me. I asked the wife not to buy me any sweatshirts, t-shirts, pajamas, warm-ups, CD's, DVD's; you know - the kind of stuff I usually get. I told her I'd pick out something...

Re: 1960's Ludwig 12" tom conversion question.

Physically, I think it should work. So, you are going to use the existing holes and drill another hole per lug to accomodate the lugs that each have 2 bolts, correct? You are going to replace the 6...

Re: Ludwig Legacy Mahagony

Keller has been making mahogany/poplar/mahogany shells with maple re-rings for a while. They are great and duplicate the vintage Ludwig sound very well. I had Precision drum make me a 10" to match my...

Re: Used Acrolite price jump?

I bought one for $150 about a year ago, off eBay. I looked for quite a while, since there are so many for sale. I didn't want to jump at just any of them. Turns out, you would be hard pressed to tell...

Re: Gretsch 6.5x14 cherry stave snare

I have the Oak version and really like it. Crisp, sensitive and just the right amount of ring to it. Great rim shots. I think I paid $370 US including a decent padded case. I chose this as a way to...

Re: Recording Customs?

Those are a custom ordered one-off. They are finished in Apple Sparkle Fade, which was an Absolute finish. They are basically a Birch Custom Absolute with RC lugs and badges, so can't be compared to...

Re: Recording Customs?

Generally, I would agree. Lacquered exterior with clear interior points to Stage Custom. However, the badges would be different than OP is saying. In the early 80's, when Yamaha used those beige...

Re: Yamaha Live Custom Oak - opinions?

Right, they weren't (aren't) made by Sakae. I guess I should have been more specific to say 'the Sakae lines are no longer made.'

Re: Recording Customs?

All of the RC kits had stained interiors. If the kit was a solid maroon finish with a clear interior, the kit was a Recording Standard as I mentioned in a previous post. And, the finish would be a...

Re: Yamaha Live Custom Oak - opinions?

The Oak Customs (along with all of the other Japanese made lines) are no longer being made, since Yamaha pulled out of Japan over a year ago. The current Oak offering is the Live Custom, which is...

You are probably the only member here who has never played acoustic drums. You are concerning yourself about nothing. Get the kit and start experimenting with it. You don't need to buy all the sound...

Re: question to all drummers

Fear of drums? Wow. I don't think I've seen a question like this posed before!

First of all, good choice of drums. Yamaha kit with a black beauty snare will serve you fine. 2nd, the player is in...

Re: Recording Customs?

If the shell interiors were not stained, they are not RC's. Yamaha did make a line back in the 80's called Recording Standard. They were the same shells as RC, but the interiors weren't stained and...

Re: Recording Customs?

What did the badges look like and what did the lugs look like? Both RC and Stage series mostly had the stretch lugs. The badges you are describing actually sound more like RC. They would be about 1"...
