Re: The grooviest groove?

I love that song. That's James Gadson drumming on that track -one of the all time greats of funk and soul. He's played with just about everyone. Here's a clip of him with Bill Withers doing a great...

Re: The grooviest groove?

I've lately been checking out Eddie Bo and, from what I've heard, I'd put hi drummer -James Black I think was his name (edit ... duh ... http://www.drummerworld.com/drummers/James_Black.html) right...

Re: Ayotte drums

I have an Ayotte set that I bought new around '99 that I like very much. Yeah, I remember asking and they didn't make their own shells back then, so I'd assume it's still the same. Mine have the...

Like everyone’s pointed out, TONS of stuff from interpretations of this book. I just got a video camera, so I thought I’d share one of my favorites. My teacher claims to be able to replicate the...

Re: Meg White.....wonder drummer??

Well, I think if you're asking if Meg White has a tremendous amount of technical ability, but she's playing so as to sound like she doesn't ...I'd answer no, I highly doubt that. I mean, she might...

Re: Hard to get rid of rest in Moeller Tech.

When You say 'rest' I'm assuming you mean you're using the moeller technique to play triplets and you can't do it without a rest between each triplet?

First, let me digress for a second. Moeller...

Re: How do you know when you have good timing?

interesting discussion!

I think counting is huge and very relevant to timing. I try to always count when I practice -always. But, unless I'm working on a snare study or doing something...

Re: Tony Williams Drum Clinic (1hour)

...at least in terms of drumming technique. You know, in my opinion, this is why drummers are generally the worst people to ask 'who's a good drummer?' Drummers usually (though not always) have the...

Re: THE DRUMMING DICTIONARY.

I don't know about the transposing thing, but that's right sniz (at least as I understand it)

Syncopationís more about the emphasis of a note in an unexpected place (which can be a down beat,...

Re: Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz here!

Hey Bermuda,

I'm not sure if I agree with you or not -because I think I may be misunderstanding what you are trying to say:

If you mean to say that anyone can learn the techniques being used by...

Re: THE BIG KITS VS SMALL KITS DEBATE

I see where you're coming from michael, but there's a difference between arguing and debating or discussing something like gr82bagn, chip, and myself are doing - along with many of the other posts in...

Re: THE BIG KITS VS SMALL KITS DEBATE

you raise a good and thoughtful point gr8 -and, also, in terms of drumming all drums in a drumset are not equal either. But, the part where my analogy comes in tends to do more with repetition of...

Re: THE BIG KITS VS SMALL KITS DEBATE

I'm a reformed large drumset player. These days, I like a 4pc drumset -every once in a while I'll use a 5 pc -but not often.

Anyway, I know part of it's personal preference, but the argument of...

Re: John Bonham

You know, that's a good point, J, but I half disagree with you. I think that the beat itself, like if you were to write it out, doesn't really have anything especially identify-ing it to John...

Re: More experience as a drummer, less muffling of the kit..what does that tell us?

wow, people really are passionate about this, huh?

Anyway, I think that when talking about recording, we also should consier the recent rise of home recording. -not making demos with a 4-track,...

Re: More experience as a drummer, less muffling of the kit..what does that tell us?

You know, I was just thinking about this again. I think all the previouly said stuff is probably most of the reason for this, but also I suspect it has something to do with playing ability as well....

Re: More experience as a drummer, less muffling of the kit..what does that tell us?

Well, sometimes I'll muffle a drum -usually in an extreme sort of circumstance, like going for an effect by draping towels over the drums, that sort of thing. Also, if you don't have a good sounding...

JC is one of my favorite rock drummers ever.

I haven't heard anything more recent than the melon-collie album, but that, siamese dream, and gish are quite an impressive body of work alone, IMO. ...

Well, I agree that I don't want to say "best" but here are some of my favorites -at least, this week.

Aretha Franklin's version of _Respect_ with Roger Hawkins on drums

Shelly Manne playing...
