Re: Annoying store experience.

Last experience I had like that I went into the store with $75 store credit I was given as a gift. I picked up a nice leather strap, a new heavy duty cord, and some miscellaneous guitar...

Re: Band leaders

Not sure who you would describe as our leader. We have one guitarist that coordinates everyone's schedule, and another that is our musical director. Our bass player is very laid back and agreeable to...

Re: Can you read sheet music?

I play percussion in a large church orchestra and often (usually) have to sight read the parts. With all the time changes in orchestral music, it's critical. We may get to run through it once before...

Re: My 1st drum kit - PDP CX Series. Advice for an old newbie??

Not sure yet. One of the other members here was suggesting Emperors over clear Ambassadors. They currently have a mix of old style and new style Evans EC2s and Tama and PDP clear resos.

Re: You won't believe what Andy did

And don't forget the Bri-wax that made him sing longer, louder, and probably higher than ever before!

Re: My 1st drum kit - PDP CX Series. Advice for an old newbie??

I just bought the same set too, only 5 piece. I'm still working on cymbals and new heads though.

Agree with Uncle Larry. Be nice to the wife. Be prepared to spend on her at least what you spend...

Re: You won't believe what Andy did

Wait! Philly to West Berlin to New Orleans? What kind of trip planning is that?!

Those are some expensive frequent flyer miles!

(if he was kidding about New York, just wait till he gets to N.O....

Re: Why the "hate" for nylon tips??

When I was young, I learned to hate them because of the tips coming off. Then again, I also hated the wood tips splintering or the tips breaking off. I'd go through a pair of ProMark 2Bs in no time...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Saturday I bought a 5 piece set of PDP CX in sky blue onyx. No pics yet. Need to replace heads and snare wires. Currently set up as a 4 piece. Not sure if I'll find much use for the 10" rack tom.

Re: What would be your drummer nickname?

A true nickname comes from somebody else.

No nicks in the current band, but in one band I was "Truck" because one of the guitarist's little boy couldn't say "Chuck".

Re: Peart - would you hang out with him?

If I had the opportunity to hang out with him, I'd probably want to talk more about writing than drums. I think it'd be cool to learn what makes him tick when coming up with such deep lyrics. I know...

Either Mother's Finest or Blue Oyster Cult back in the mid 70s at DeKalb College. Followed by many others over the next few years.

Re: For those who play at church or not.

Our church has a large sanctuary that seats over a thousand. However, the acoustics in the room were designed where a normal speaking voice could be heard at the back of the room. The other night at...

Re: Over exuberance - a time & a place?

Probably seemed a little frantic because the tempo was way too fast for that song!

I actually liked the trashcan ending!

Re: No rudiments taught in marching band?

Rudiments were a big part of my band experience. In high school, even our grades were impacted by how well we could play them.

Re: Wanting to join a marching band

Drum Corps Associates (DCA) is the organization for senior (over 21) drum and bugle corps. Looking at their website, I don't see any active corps near San Francisco. I have friends (in their 50s)...

Re: Ever shown up to play with a new musician and realized it was a bad fit immediately?

I was invited to a jam set up by a guy I met online. The idea was to put together a jam band that would play a few parties and gigs, mostly for fun. We were to meet up at the singer's house. When I...
