Re: The Great Philippine Mahogany Lie

OP missed an important 3rd purpose of drums shell: to resonate. The resonant properties of the wood are very important,. Thin shells resonate more than thicker shells. Different metals resonate...

Re: Do you have any OCD-type traits about your drums/set-up?

My kick drum pedal. I don't trust house backline equipment. If I can't play kick decently then I'll royally screw up gig, so I always take my own pedal and carry a second one in my first one breaks....

Re: Vintage Rogers kit questions

Yeah right Everplay heads are like in very dumpster I've ever gone diving in lol. So are Remo heads from the 60's lol. If a dude has a kit for sale locally on Craigslist he's not gone to trouble of...

Re: Craviotto - Interesting news

There's no beach. The closest mountains will look like foothills to them. No desert. either. I lived there for 3 years and never liked it much.

Re: Craviotto - Interesting news

I'm in St Matthews. Our band leader - Jim Masterson - lives near Barrett and Oak around the old Hausenaurs restaurant if you remember it.

Re: Vintage Rogers kit questions

Mardi Gras is listed for $1,800. In ad the issue with lugs (split) is noted.

One thing to determine originality is heads: are batter heads original? I do this with Premier and Olympic, since they...

Re: Craviotto - Interesting news

I live in Louisville. I shop Craigslist for drums and gear in Louisville, Lexington, Nashville, Indy, and Cincy. Nashville doesn't really ever have anything for sale that isn't found in other cities....

Re: What do you use for music . .

YouTube and CD's via wireless Bluetooth headset. Learning a new piece for our band I Google and listen to YouTube. I don't care if there's a drummer playing - I prefer it. Teaches me the groove.

Re: Is American Made Truly Better and Worthy of Premium Pricing?

I dunno if it's cool or not. It's different. Surely not generic lol.

I bought this Barton.

Re: Is American Made Truly Better and Worthy of Premium Pricing?

I don't think Pearl qualifies for the generic box. In the end it's just untrue that most Asian drum products are generic in appearance. As an example, pick a finish a Pearl finish. Plenty of...

Re: Is American Made Truly Better and Worthy of Premium Pricing?

Yeah, the Saturino finish is a bit extreme, but helps dispel notion of "generic" quite well lol.

Re: Is American Made Truly Better and Worthy of Premium Pricing?

Another generic Asian finish. I could go on and on but I think you get the point - anything but generic.

Re: 8" tom: thumbs up or down?

I don't know if I could effectively play one. I'd be hitting rim all the time. I need more real estate.

Re: Is American Made Truly Better and Worthy of Premium Pricing?

Example: Ludwig Neusonic made in USA small kit price = $999.

For $999 I can get an excellent quality Tama, Mapex, Barton, etc. that far exceeds quality of the Neusonic. For that matter the Tama...

Re: Is American Made Truly Better and Worthy of Premium Pricing?

As a nod to Memorial Day, I don't think any of our WWII vets liked going up against German Tiger tanks in WWII. Germany had the best mechanized military in that war. And, the US had to gather up all...

Re: Premier Signia - help please

The regular Signia is thinner hence the need for reinforcement rings. Shells without reinforcement rings are everywhere; re-rings are less common. Signia. Sonor Prolite. Vintage Rogers and...

Re: Premier Signia - help please

By lower value I meant, generally, the shells with re-rings are bit more collectible. And I think they sound better because the shells are thinner. They both were still the pinnacle of Premier drums...

Re: State your unpopular drumming opinions

Mushrooms are a fungus that grow from dead decayed rotting things. All our food is nasty. I don't have time to think about it I'm too busy enjoying life.

Re: Finally going to use my Premier 2000 - Tuning/other advice?

I have the more collectible older Premier HiFi aluminum snare. It's a very versatile instrument. Probably the most versatile snare I own. I don't gig with it, mainly because I prefer 13" snares. I...

Re: Consolidating Gear-Opinions Welcomed and Appreciated

I'd keep the '66 Slingerland Stage Band, keep the coolest looking MIJ with baddest wrap (bad in a good way), and sell the rest cheap cheap cheap so you turn them quickly. At an average of $200 a kit...
