Re: Making a difference - Oz update :)

Thats pretty damn awesome, Andy! And, holy hell is that one kick ass chair! Forget pimping the wheels, get some neons on that thing, buy some scaffolding and mount stage lights to it and the guy is...

Re: ddrum Paladin

Hmm... My Reflex kit isnt that poor of build quality. My only issue was that the shells were slightly crushed by the mounting hardware being installed so tightly. I chalk this up to really soft...

Re: Wraith vs Sledgehammer

Well, if they both sound the same to you, pick the one that's the prettiest.

Re: Good kits for under $1000???

And this may just be an issue with Gretsch Catalinas. Maybe the factory that makes them just has low quality standards on their bearing edges, and puts all the emphasis on the finish, I don't know. ...

Re: Good kits for under $1000???

Yeah, I'll take 'em to the sanding table and sand them flush with no voids before I cut new edges. I dont mind a slightly shallower drum. I would love to actually cut the drums shallower, but these...

Re: Good kits for under $1000???

I asked the question on Ghostnote and the general consensus is that the edges should be re-cut. Why keep the crap when you can have something nice?

Re: Good kits for under $1000???

Very true. My router and bits cost a total of ~$250. My table is just a sheet of melamine with a hole in it for the bit to go through. Total cost of pretty much everything I needed to do the edges...

Re: Good kits for under $1000???

No, they aren't voids. Whoever did these edges (maybe they are machine done and no one pays attention to what the machine is doing???) they ripped through the edges in one pass (probably as fast as...

Re: Good kits for under $1000???

Yes and no. Yes if its a small kit built with some attention to detail. No, if its a big kit built with cost cutting in mind. My Gretsch kit is a big 7 piece that I got for a steal. The finish is...

Re: Good kits for under $1000???

Concept all the way. I hate their finishes (ie. What look like brush strokes in the lacquer), but they tend to have nice bearing edges and overall shell construction. My Catalinas have a great...

Re: I Need To Identify This Snare

I was going to say CB700 based on the residue shape from the label. Also, I have counted the lugs with every photo and I only count 8 lugs. Maybe these photos were taken with some sort of crazy...

Re: Big maple fun :)

Yeah, that's what I figured. Its just strange to see someone mic the batter side of a bass drum instead of the reso side. But considering you are only using this mic and a couple overheads, I...

Re: Big maple fun :)

Interesting that you are recording the batter side of the bass drum. Was there too much boom with it mic'ing the reso head? Was it betting lost in the mix, so to speak?

Re: Roland TD12 or TD20 what do i need to know???

The TD-12 module can be upgraded to have all the sounds and tuning of the TD-20 module by loading up the latest firmware from Roland's website. So its basically a TD-20 module but it has 3 less...

Re: Drum suspension systems

Very true. Those Guru guys know what they are doing. They are like drum... masters, or something. :)

Seriously though, suspension feet on floor tom legs make a noticeable difference. ...

Re: Ever have a drums finish sway you away from purchasing it?

Well, I can't afford that drum set, so there's no chance of me buying it. <sad> But, yes, red is a color that I do not believe looks good on a kit. It's like buying a red sports car; It's trying...

Re: Ever have a drums finish sway you away from purchasing it?

I really think red drums should be banned. Red is just not a flattering color for drums. They scream '90's Pearl Export.

Re: Sakae Eco Friendly Snares

Just to clarify, folks, just because a wood is physically "hard" (ie: high numbers on Janka hardness scale) does not mean it is a "hardwood". Same thing goes for woods that are physically "soft".

Re: Drum suspension systems

I like Yamaha's YESS III mounting system:

Re: Other songs that sound like other songs

There are a lot of Wierd Al songs that sound so much like other band's stuff. I'll have take a look through their catalogue and get back to you on the specifics... :)

Re: Sakae Eco Friendly Snares

If the tree grows leaves its a hardwood. If it grows needles its a softwood. There's slightly more to it than that, but its an easy rule of thumb to remember.

Re: Walberg and Auge is back

I'm not going to pull a John Good here and say tone matching shells is the epitome of a great drum set, but if you do have the ability to hand select shells you have a better chance of finding shells...
