Re: A public thank you.

A few weeks ago, somebody asked me where I attended high school? I told him Drummerworld forum. Actually not so far off.

Just a quick update- After not liking Nashville so much I'm preparing for...

Re: An attempt at a policy change here

Ok, it's been a year. What have I missed?

Oh yeah, Hey Shemp.

Here's how it works on drum forums

1. If you contribute righteously to the forum community with as many or more posts unrelated...

Re: Matt Smith Returns From Darkness/Lessons Too.

No, I don't know those fellas. Truth be known it took a long time for me to get into a money mode here, meaning my presence is only now starting to surface with any regularity, although I still...

Re: The most 'influential' jazz albums

Haha before the Giant Steps discussion turns into a seminar of jazz geekdom (for which I am entirely responsible) I think Todd's final point stands as the best towards refuting my original...

Re: The most 'influential' jazz albums

OK I'm open to your contention. So can you name one other time when something similar to the Coltrane changes were implemented to any one style's musical canon?

As for the launch pad thing, I...

Re: The most 'influential' jazz albums

I would contend they became known as the Coltrane changes because he was the only one doing that kind of thing on that high level for any length of time.

Can anyone here name one other...

Re: Matt Smith Returns From Darkness/Lessons Too.

I've enjoyed reading some of your posts as I've learned you're a very knowledgable jazzophile...which is more than good enough for me.

Re: The most 'influential' jazz albums

I think it could be carried further that Ellington at Newport was what got Duke to that very nice final period with the massive global touring, the Sacred Concerts and all that great television that...

Re: Are we too hard on people around here?

They talk among their friends on Facebook, although the same number appear to lurk on forums.

You know Larry, this whole subculture is a funny thing. It's part of your overall thing when you're...

Re: Are we too hard on people around here?

For the most part, drum forums are softer now than they were 7-8 years ago. For about six years (2003 to 2009) they were one very personal blood bath after another, meaning if someone complains now I...

Re: Matt Smith Returns From Darkness/Lessons Too.

Well...I've picked up a nice core group of students and I'm having a GREAT time. So I've decided to extend my previous offer and try to latch on to a few more.

So I'm throwing it out there...

Re: The most 'influential' jazz albums

Of the Miles albums, there are so many to consider, and most that I would have mentioned have already been covered, although I think much can be said for the 70s period that also includes: Jack...

Re: ...for the jazz cats ...

Being as this is a jazz related thing, I wanted to announce that yesterday my dad Tom Smith was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Education Hall of Fame as the only inductee for 2013. Pretty cool.

Re: Matt Smith Returns From Darkness/Lessons Too.

Thanks for the enthusiasm guys...and with that said, I need to clarify some things, seeing as people are jumping in.

1. For a while at least I'm just taking money the old fashioned way (check,...

Re: ...for the jazz cats ...

It's funny that I have a history with Bret Primak. He is closely hooked up with Sonny Rollins, and all through high school I begged him to allow me access. I used to drive him crazy. Then my father...

Re: Matt Smith Returns From Darkness/Lessons Too.

Hey guys,

I used to believe you needed a special set up for Skype. But you don't. All you need is to set up the free account and get headphones with a mic. Then you're good to go. You can find...

Hello Everyone,

As some know, I used to be here a lot...so I hope no one thinks I'm gratuitously spamming. After a year of behind the scenes session work I'm ready to get back into the swing of...

Re: YouTube's influence, how realistic?

Re: I have a problem with different opinions

So how long has it been again since I've even engaged in a conversation on a drum forum?

Meh... this is why I've learned to be the one who gets the popcorn.

Amazing.

Hi Kyle,

First of all, I want to tell you how pleased I am with your progress. This is night and day compared to your first video. I'm also flattered you would go to the trouble to do all this...
