Re: I'm at a loss. I can't tune a drum to save my life.

We can tell you lots of things just like the YouTube videos, but I don't think you will learn how to tune until someone actually helps you in person.
You need to find someone in your area that can...

Re: How tense are you when you play?

My post was supposed to be funny with a little bit of truth to it.
The last time I played I was thinking about this thread. And I had trouble determining just how tense I might be.
I am very...

Re: Would You Match A Kit To Fit An Audition?

Yeah, what Larry said. Play for the song, not to impress them.

Might be a good idea to bring a bass drum, snare, hi hat, floor tom and one cymbal. And that's all. Then impress them with what...

Re: Snare rim-click help

I use one of these. It does not make the cross sticking sound better or worse,
but it makes it easier to keep your hand and fingers off the drum head when you cross stick.

Re: Snare Stand Experiment

Very interesting.

I know if I clamp the snare drum down tight in the snare stand it dampens the sound a little. So I just lay the snare drum on top of the snare stand tips without tightening...

Re: HELP: trying to find perfect kit

How much money do you have to spend?

Do you need everything, (Cymbals, hardware, snare)? Or just the bass drum and toms?

Re: Drumming in the pre digital age.

Larry: I'm 1000% with you on this.

I came back to drumming two years ago and if it were not for this forum, as far as drumming knowledge goes, I'd be stuck in 1970.

There has been a lot of...

Re: 10 lug bowties on a Supra?

I think it is a Ludwig LM300 Rocker Chrome on steel snare.

Worth exactly what he is asking for it.

Here is one:

Re: Snare rim-click help

So far on this thread, all good advice.

I always thought this technique was called cross-sticking.

I always get a much better sound using the butt end of the stick on the rim as opentune...

Re: How tense are you when you play?

I'm very relaxed when I play. Loose as a goose. Sometimes I watch the football or baseball game on the big screen behind the bar while I'm playing.

However, when I play at a jam, with musicians...

Re: Bad gig, good learning experience.

Yeah playing outdoors can create several challenges.
Most common is that the whole band begins to play louder because they can't hear themselves the way they are used to. And sometimes a player...

Re: What's your process for coming up with drum grooves for songs?

I just play Keith Moon grooves for every song.
No matter what kind of song it is.

Which means I play the melody of the song very loudly.

(I'm not in a band right now and I have no gigs...

Re: Shooting for a 50's sounding snare! Any advice?

Use your Acrolite. Tighten up the heads on it.
Staple 3 sheets of printer paper together. Place the paper on top of the drum.
Play it and see if that is the sound you are looking for.

(You can...

Re: Let down by a drummer with chops but no ability

Thank you so much for this thread. I feel better now.
I always feel bad that I don't have the chops necessary to play a cool warmup.
Nor do I have the chops to play by myself when someone says "...

Songs with keyboard solos =...

Re: HELP! I need a good inexpensive snare fast!

I think with the right heads and tuning almost any steel snare will work for you.

I just purchased a 5 x 14 Pearl sensitone snare used at Guitar center. And I like it! $95.00 Good sounding...

I use one of these. I love it !

It has a limiter, but I have never driven it high enough to have the limiter come on.
You are making me think I should try it to see where the limiter will kick...

Re: Personality Influences Playing

Hey, donít discount the power of the sing sing sing solo formula. It is similar to the Bo Diddley beat, the Johnny Otis hand jive beat, etc. etc. And many more, even that standard old surf music...
