Re: Ben White I'm impressed

Ha! I was just thinking this Saturday when I was watching their videos. That guy is awesome! I got to the point where I was watching their videos just to see him play :-)

Re: Anyone ever wonder if it's all worth it?

Ha! I guess you got me there. This project doesn't really need the finger work, but one of my other projects is a more up tempo hard rock/metal outfit that I would like to be able to do faster 16th...

Re: Anyone ever wonder if it's all worth it?

Actually I do have a couple of recordings from a current project here https://soundcloud.com/blueskygrey/on-sundays-1 and here https://soundcloud.com/blueskygrey/from-a-rooftop. They are home...

Re: Anyone ever wonder if it's all worth it?

This is a big help Larry, thanks.

I've been playing for 12 years but never practiced until 2.5 years ago (just played in bands) - at that point I moved to Chicago and decided to actually put...

Re: Anyone ever wonder if it's all worth it?

:-) I practice nearly every day either full kit of practice pad and usually everything goes well but sometimes I just hit a wall of frustration and want nothing more than to smash my drums to pieces!...

Re: Anyone ever wonder if it's all worth it?

Yep, the reason I am trying to improve finger control in my left hand is not because 'the latest DVD' told me to do it but because if I can improve this area then my stick control will be better and...

Re: Anyone ever wonder if it's all worth it?

Thanks for all the replies guys, it's nice to see that I'm not alone and also receive some sage words on the bigger picture :-) . This site is always good for moral support - Cheaper than a counselor...

Anyone ever wonder if it's all worth it?

I usually enjoy playing but also often find myself getting really annoyed that I can't do something...like today for example trying(and failing) to improve my finger control with the left hand. I end...

Re: Trying to help out a blind friend

I work for a blindness agency in Chicago, and my colleague and friend has been blind since he was a kid and is a great piano player and drummer. If you want me to hook you up with him shoot me a PM,...

Re: First studio experience

This is why I love recording in my friends project studio. We can take as much time as we like and it's actually an enjoyable experience. With the price of equipment and computers the way they are...

Re: shell mounted tom vs rims mount?

I found a snare stand always choked my 10" and 12" toms, even when holding the drum by the rim rather than the drum resting in the basket. But that was before I discovered "little booty shakers"!...

Re: Forum psychology

If you think this forum is bad in any way I encourage you to go to the gaming website ign.com and look at the threads there. Inevitably after 2-3 posts (on a good day!) all the posters are bashing...

Re: is anyone ever satisfied with their playing?

I'm not sure there needs to be any consensus on this anyway. I started the thread with some personal feelings on the matter and ultimately it's probably a personal matter depending on the...

Re: Ludwig 10 inch tom with two Badges?

Great thanks for the info! I figured that was why but just wanted to make sure since I hadn't seen it on a Ludwig drum before.

Ludwig 10 inch tom with two Badges?

Hey all, I just purchased a 10" Ludwig tom with Keystone badge from Ebay and when it arrived was surprised to find it has 2 badges. Is this normal? My other Ludwigs, which are older shells, only have...

Re: is anyone ever satisfied with their playing?

I'm glad I brought this topic up because it's obviously something that resonates with other people here also. I for some reason thought that I was just overly negative but I think a lot of people are...

Re: is anyone ever satisfied with their playing?

Yep you nailed what I was getting at. I can feel satisfied if I achieve something I am trying to do, but if I was asked if I was satisfied with my overall playing I would answer 'No'. I don't beat...

Re: is anyone ever satisfied with their playing?

That's crazy! I wonder if at the end of their life they felt it was worth it? I mean if they spent their whole lives working on a skill and at the end of their lives were still unsatisfied with their...

Re: is anyone ever satisfied with their playing?

You're right of course, but I always find myself focusing much more on how much I still want to improve rather than how far I've come. The same when listening back to my playing, I always focus on...

Re: is anyone ever satisfied with their playing?

[QUOTE=DrumEatDrum;1209056]I remember seeing a Dennis Chambers clinic, and Denis wowed the audience with inhuman speed and chops. The audience sat there with jaws on the floor wondering how anyone...

is anyone ever satisfied with their playing?

Just wondering if anyone is ever really happy with where they are? I never feel satisfied because whatever I CAN do there's so much more I CAN'T. Also whenever I write a drum part I can't help but...
