Re: What sticks to a snare drum? (Help stop my triggers from bouncing away)

No pictures from me because I don't trigger any longer. When I did, I triggered a snare drum only. Visualize this. Get a 4" strip of really sticky duct tape. Don't use crap. Place the pickup...

Re: What sticks to a snare drum? (Help stop my triggers from bouncing away)

Duct tape worked like a charm for me. I probably used a 4" length of it though. I kept my trigger near the edge of the drum and cranked up the sensitivity.

Re: ludwig swivel nut

Be careful removing the lugs. You can snap the fasteners off with ease trying to remove them.

Re: Identify this Ludwig kit

If I could see the bass drum spurs I'd have a better idea, but I'm guessing a late 70's Ludwig Big Beat. Worth double that amount, if not more.

Re: drum friends - help me out with this idea...

Remember, a waltz is a feel and not a time signature. You might want to reevaluate your thinking. I'd probably look at something with a heavy half-time with the back beat on 3 in the 3/4 measures...

Re: xylophone beginners questions

Don't sell it short. It actually has three keys. C, F and G. And 1.5 octaves.

Re: What drummers need for a gig

Sticks, 2nd snare drum, bass drum head. I also carried one of these -

I kept my stick back in there along with a Swiss Army knife,...

Re: Jazz Band Tryout

Find some big band tunes to listen to and play along with. There's more to jazz band drumming than being able to play a particular pattern. I really like Sammy Nestico charts and if you have any...

Re: need help counting

I'm torn between 4-4-6-4 and 4-6-4-4. I doubt it matters either way because the phrasing breaks up nicely for either method of counting that section.

Re: Looking for help choosing a pro level drum kit

I'd find a decent set of drums and some versatile cymbals and be done with it. Obviously you're at a point where you don't want to be using crap, but you also don't want an expensive set of drums at...

Re: Tips for learning 7/8 time?

You really want to subdivide in method that fits the feel and flow of the music. For instance, if the backbeats are on the 3rd and 7th beats of the measure, you are not going to want to count 1 - 2...

Re: Anyone know how much touring drummers get paid?

At the height of NSYNC's popularity, a friend of mine (not the drummer) declined continuing with their world tour because he could make more money with a regular teaching job and gigging on the...

Re: musical notation question

That's exactly it. The feel/time is going 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3 with a lovely triplet feel and you're going to stuff 4 notes into a space where musically they do not belong. Rhythmically it...

Re: musical notation question

And 6/8 (or 12/8) is a triplet feel counted in two and there is no natural way to write a 4-note 16th pattern in the beat.

So, I would write it as four 16th notes with a 4 over it. I haven't...

Re: 1975 - guess the drummer :)

I couldn't have told you that this was Simon Phillips. I could have told you it WASN'T Vinnie Colaiuta though. The year (1975) and location (London) don't work.

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta Technique Question

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta Technique Question

Is an example of what you mean at 1:39? It's just counting (metric modulation). Sounds like he's turning the triplet into an 8th note.

The bigger question is why you'd want to do this? Unless...

I was out looking to see a) who was playing drums for Sting and b) if it was Vinnie, what he was using for equipment. Sting has (it appears) Vinnie and the drummer from the Symphonicities tour. ...

Re: Best 10 drum albums? How about the best 10 "live" drum albums?

I had the Main Squeeze album from Chuck Mangione. Live at the Hollywood Bowl had better versions of the Main Squeeze album.

Carlock is certainly good ;) but there's just something about Dennis...

Re: Best 10 drum albums? How about the best 10 "live" drum albums?

Correct but Dennis Chambers' playing is what does it for me.
