Re: Options under a thousand?

I agree with Bo. Lots of good kits.

Another place to check is Dales in Harrisburg PA. Look for SONOR drums sets Force 3007 Maple Stage 3 there and what they list on ebay. They bought out the...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

A typo Jim? To me this is the sad part - from what i have seen in the past the charge is 2x or more what a band may expect.

Re: Anyone here play 3 up with 10/12/14 on a rack?

I used a similar set up (10 12 13 14 rack - 3 leg) up until 2013 when I bought a new kit. I agree that the 14 seemed too big and this did not include it in my new set up.

Re: Bo rants!

Been there. I think it is more commonplace than you may think. I know it is a downer at the moment it happens, but it sounds like it ended in agreement. Think about the outcome if it did not. ...

Re: Mapex or DW?

Not even close. ;-) :-) It is true that DW is the highest quality USA made kit, but it is not the most expensive on the market. Everything else is subjective, and I am not sure i would agree...

Re: What a satisfying first rehearsal

Playing Steely Dan material (correctly) is whole new level. There is a band up here in NorCal that is a Steely Dan tribute and they are really good, so I know it can be done. :-) Should be a lot...

Re: Drum Configuration

Agree on the 16" floor (as a replacement for the 14?), but not critical, especially if space is an issue. I'd experiment a bit with heads first. Clear Ambassadors are great heads but are pretty...

Re: Songs that make you do a double-take when you sit to down to play them

Reggae_Mangle brings up a good point. It is all about how you look at things.

Here is more food for thought. ;-)

A cover can be defined as a new performance (or recording) of a...

Re: Putting together a high mobile kit for an acoustic guitar group

If volume is a your concern, here's an idea. You still will need a 4x4 area though. (Im curious what other people think about this idea so flame away. ;-) )

"Bop" or ultra small kit....

Re: What drummers need for a gig

Here is an idea to consider: For extra parts, consider just putting them in your cars glove box and leave them there, assuming you always drive the same vehicle to gigs. That way you always have...

Re: Snare drum Olympics - help needed - opportunity!

That is certainly a beautiful drum. I'm sure someone will take it and I'm also sure no one will offer any negative comment about the posting.

Good luck in the contest!!!

Re: Post your good experiences with manufacturers' service here

I contacted D'Addario/Evans/Puresound/ProMark about stick issues and they were very accommodating and addressed the problem without question.

I contacted Sonor (Germany) about a defection part...

Re: Questions about kick drum heads

You probably do not want to cover the whole head unless the graphic is the whole head. It will change the tone. Just some food for thought.

Re: Cramped Drums on Tiny Stages

many of us have purchased a smaller kit for those occasions. It takes some getting used to, but what you loose in components you make up for in the ability to be comfortable and play better.

Re: Songs that make you do a double-take when you sit to down to play them

+1 Even other drummers may not notice. I must say that I never really understood the whole 'coping note for note' theory either. If you are playing charts then you need to be spot on. However,...

NorCal Percussionsts Thread

Inspired by the PNW thread and some of the responses, this seemed appropriate. ;-)

So who is all in NorCal from Monterey to Tahoe to the Oregon border and what would you like to share?

Ill...

Re: Spousal Static - A mini Rant

I agree. At least not happily for somebody. I have played with my share of some really good musicians who, over the years, have ether stopped playing entirely or all but stop playing because of a...

Re: Snare Drum Audio Blind Test

I did not hear much difference in tonal quality. Test 4 and 6 seems a little more closer miked. Generally, though, most had an distance to them and it seems a lot of high end EQ. Was that...

Re: What's My Next Move?

It is always hardest to try to start a band, though it could be the most full filling. A lot of hours of rehearsals and a lot of turn over because you will find that many players will want immediate...
