Re: How to Practice Techniques so they are Useful

Great post - this is my whole M.O. with the technique stuff. It sounds obvious, but you have to hone in on exercises that help on the kit. I found itís two things - what specific exercises youíre...

Re: seamlessly switching between singles and doubles around the kit

Awesome! As far as upping the metronome - starting with 60 BPM is great. Try making the daily increments larger than 2 BPM, so by the last day on a page, youíre playing around 120 BPM.

For your...

Re: Getting lazy and playing heel down

IMO, learning heel down (beater coming off of the head) - is similar to learning Freestroke for the hands - it leads to relaxation and definitely grounds oneís playing...

Re: seamlessly switching between singles and doubles around the kit

There are many great ways to approach Stick Control, IMO the best way to start, is the way Stone originally intended:

Play each exercise as Full Strokes - i.e. the sticks start and end 90ļ to the...

Re: Intersting article on Beats Headphones

That is definitely a thing with Sonys - but the key is to get Sony pads. A lot of the after market ones that people use Aury, Beyer Dynamic, etc. - negatively alter the sound quality. Theyíre not...

Re: Fast Shuffle Technique

Thatís the beauty of Moeller - itís a natural motion so most players donít even know when theyíre doing it. In the end itís about getting the right sound - but having some labels helps define what...

Re: Intersting article on Beats Headphones

I also really like the Sony MDR-7506’s - they’re good all-around cans. My other favorites, are Grado headphones. For around the same price as the Sony's, the SR-80e’s are one of the all-time great...

Re: Techniques for bass drum

Heel down is great - it wasnít until I embraced heel down, that my bass drum playing really improved. One twist to playing heel down - donít bury the beater. You didnít mention how youíre playing...

Re: So matched grip hurts my left hand

IMO you should still learn to play matched - all drummers who play trad grip, also play matched at some point.

As mentioned, you should never be feeling any pain - but the problem here is,...

Re: please comment on my technique
