Re: Small and easy to transport drum kit

Certainly they'll work for practice but I expect you'll grow tired of the sound fairly quickly. I tapped on a Breakbeats at a store the other day and I thought it sounded awful especially the floor...

Re: Club Date SE snare...forgot how awesome it is.

Me too. I put coated G1's (usually use coated G2) on the toms and used them yesterday on a gig. Opened up beautifully but still punchy. The tone of these drums just pleases me to no end. The bass...

Re: Club Date SE snare...forgot how awesome it is.

For some reason I thought you had the 6.5, Bob. I would be curious to hear that size. These snares are a bargain.

I'm also itching to get a CD 13-16-22 kit like yours.

Re: Is it OK to talk about the movie "Whiplash" yet?

If you put the word "spoiler" in the thread title I don't see why not.

Re: Club Date SE snare...forgot how awesome it is.

I did have a good time! It was a birthday party for a friend and lots of us are musicians so we put together a show for her. I played 6 songs on drums and 3 on guitar. Was a blast.

Club Date SE snare...forgot how awesome it is.

Last night I brought out my Ludwig Club Date SE to a party gig and decided to use my Club Date snare (14x5) with it. I had been using my Blacro for the past few months. The party was in a hall and we...

Re: Being dragged out of the 60's

Those songs are old, dude! lol

Seriously though, certain songs have signature things that people expect you to play. Learn those for sure. But as for learning a song note-for-note like on the...

Re: A REVELATION.

At a clinic this past summer, I asked Dave about this very issue. His answer was that he still used mostly trad and used matched only for rock/high volume backbeat gigs. His remedy included dietary...

Re: When soundmen attack

My view on this issue is just cut a damn hole. Why deal with headaches with soundmen when porting is such a simple solution? It's so much easier and faster to get a good sound that I just don't see...

Re: offset kit configuration opinions?

That's the problem with a 5-piece set. you either have to compromise with the ride or the hats. One solution is to get the toms offset but as far right (in your case left) as you can using a rack....

Re: so my band wants to do top 40s...

I was in a successful cover band for about 10 years. My approach to learning songs was to cop the overall feel of the song and make an effort to learn any signature beats/fills. At first this may...

Re: My New Studio Setup Look at the floor space

Looks great! I have a Stealth rack too but honestly when it comes to gigging, I use two or three flat base stands and a bass drum mounted cymbal holder. Way lighter and easier to lug around than the...

Re: Gtetsch round badge vs the square(ish)

This is the limited edition mint green fade pearl wrap from a few years ago. Same shell as the new ones. Good price for this kit.

Re: Learning to play well on a 4 piece kit ....

Oh yeah. I've been playing a 4-piece (with 3 or 4 cymbals) almost exclusively for about 20 years. It's been enough for my musical needs and is less to carry around which is important to me. I have...

Re: Anyone suggest good drum bags?

I have a Galaxy (Humes & Berg) 14x14 that I quite like. Reasonably priced. Seems durable enough for my needs so far. Would buy more.

Re: Straight from the horse's mouth.

Could Buddy just have meant that he didn't use the French grip (thumb on top) technique of just fingers? His wrist is clearly always initiating the motion of the stick.

Re: The Clave Police

I think it matters if you're playing traditional music. If you're using latin feels or influence in another style of music I say as long as it sounds good, it's good. I've never noticed those kinds...

Re: Atlas oversight...

Well Ludwig makes this single mount and other companies make similar one. Should do what you want. Unless there's something you want it to do that I'm not understanding.

Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

Though in Gibraltar's defense, they do make an incredible variety of great products. I also love my flat-base stands, Stealth rack, thrones, etc. I don't think they are some generic brand without...

Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

Gibraltar have occasional issues. I have the quick release clutch and it had threads all the way down. I had to grind them down in the center myself so my cymbals wouldn't get key-holed. I think they...

Re: Old and new

Yeah, without having been there it's hard to tell the context. It's just the way it's phrased in the OP makes it seem like an out of the blue irrelevant question.

Re: The Supra returns ;)

When I saw Dave in clinic a few months ago he was still using that snare and he demonstrated its capabilities. The difference in sound between the two sets of wires was quite remarkable. He uses one...
