Re: What's your latest purchase?

Thanks! No, I sold the Black Panthers in november last year, didn't keep that kit too long (about 8-9 months maybe). Nice kit, but at that time I quit one of my bands, had less space for drums and...

Re: Mapex saturn IV or BP black widow kit

That is a valid point as well, expandability. I know it's possible to expand the Black Widow kit, as I did have plans to do it and asked the dealer about it, but it took longer to get than Saturn...

Re: Mapex saturn IV or BP black widow kit

I've owned both (Saturn IV and Black Widow), sold the Black Widow. That says enough... :p . Nah, both are really nice kits. But the Saturns have more "bottom end" in my opinion, sounds more complex....

Re: Ever have a drums finish sway you away from purchasing it?

I've been burned two times in the past when I thought the finish wouldn't matter as much to me, and bought these kits (Sonor Force 2003 in Wax Blue (stain) and a Mapex Saturn in Deep Cherry Sparkle...

Re: Mapex Saturn lV - drum nirvana??

Very nice kit, I believe I commented on it in your thread over at the Pearl forum as well. And a cool story to go with it :). I can see why some people think that Saturns get a bit too much attention...

Re: Brand Loyalty

I will stand by everything Dre25 wrote, and add that I have owned kits from a lot of different brands myself (Yamaha, Sonor, Premier, Tama, Mapex, Pearl). I used to be kinda loyal to Tama for a long...

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

For me, Metallica and Lars was a reason (the main reason I think) I started to play metal-oriented music with my bands in the late 90's. I unfortunately was not old enough to hear them in their prime...

Re: What's your story about how you started drumming?

Nice trip down memory lane :)

I was always into music and singing, and my parents got me to take piano lessons when I was about 5-6 years old. I became bored after a couple of years with that...

Re: Do you own (or want to own) both acoustic and electric kits?

I have 2 acustic kits and one Roland TD9-KV e-kit. For me, it's the only way I could get any practice done at home, I live wall-to-wall with my neighbour. But the e-kit still produce too much impact...

Re: Show us your Mapex kits!

My Saturn IV's in Cherry Mist. The 8x7" tom is from my Sonor kit though, almost the same finish. I've ordered the 8x7" tom for the Saturn kit, but it took some months to deliver... Cymbals are mostly...

Re: Broken snare lugs (Sonor essential)

Yikes, that doesn't look good. I have a Sonor Essential Force kit myself, but never seen anything like that so far... I have sold the snare for that kit though, I don't know if the toms/bassdrums...

Re: Best snares on the market

Right now, my favorite snare is the 14x6" Tama Starphonic Bronze (limited edition, made of Meinl B10 bronze). It has "the" sound I've been searching for, for me and my style of playing (heavy). Cuts...

Re: Tama SC maple vs Mapex saturn IV exotic

Ah, sorry about me being incorrect on the made in China part :). Then my local shop at least have misinformed me, as that was my main base of information... At least in my part of the world, it seems...

Re: Tama SC maple vs Mapex saturn IV exotic

Well, since I've owned both kits (still own a Saturn IV exotic), I will chime in and say they are both high quality, and it really comes down to personal preference. I ultimately sold my SC Maple...

Re: Let's Talk Snare Drums

Sadly never had too much experience with Ludwig snares myself, only one I've tried over a longer period was a 14x5,5" Supraphonic Hammered Bronze, which was owned by the studio my band recorded our...

Right now I have two "good" snares, and one slightly inferior backup, but still usable (14x6,5" Mapex MPX Hammered Steel). My two favorites at the moment (of course, since I own them :) ):

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

I kinda wished I had more sentimentality with my drums, then I might not feel the need to get new drums so regularly :(. It has been a bad habit of mine (I've had about 20 drumkits, since I started...

Re: Yamaha Power V Special Heads

I had the same kit as my first kit in the 90's, pretty good sounding when tuned right with good heads. I would suggest that you get rid of those old Yamaha reso heads, even though you don't hit them...

Re: Help me find a good Drum Kit

If those are your 3 options, I would go for the Sonor, even if it stretches the budget a little. The two others are beginner kits, the Sonor is 100% birch shells, more in the mid-level segment...

Re: Mapex saturn iv exotic ir tama starclassic maple

Well, I have owned both kits you describe (still own the Saturn). In my opinion, as far as quality go, there is no big difference at all. They are both well made pro-kits. But as others have said,...

Re: Tama Starclassic Bubinga vs Mapex Saturn IV Exotic

Well, I have owned both these kits (now own the Saturn IV), and allthough the Bubingas might have a bit more expensive features and are regarded as a bit higher up on the quality scale (the made in...

Re: How many drum kits have you owned?

1970's unknown brand (Brown Oyster), 5 piece
1994 Yamaha Power V Special (Black), 6-piece
2002 Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute (Cherry Red), 5 piece
2003 Tama Rockstar (Black), doublebass...

Re: The biggest gear hoarders in DW

Hmm, I thought I had an extreme hoarding/gear mover thing going on, apparantly not comparing to some in this thread :). People I know do look at me weirdly when I tell them I got new drums on order...
