Re: Help with right hand/foot interdependence, PLEASE!

Good post - I also think that the TS should be looking for ways to find more practice time rather than any individual exercise or method book. I'm in a similar situation to yours with the day job...

Re: YouTube's influence, how realistic?

Thank you so much for this post, my thoughts exactly.

I'm actually quite surprised at how critical everybody is of the Youtube drum covers. I actually enjoy the good ones quite a lot and I think...

Re: ? about Wilcoxon-Modern Rudimental Swing Solos

Yeah sorry.

By too fast I also meant too fast for sounding any good rather than being impossible to play.

Re: ? about Wilcoxon-Modern Rudimental Swing Solos

For sure it is, but I cannot think of any situation where a 7-stroke roll at that tempo would sound better than a 5-stroke... Have you got any examples I could check out? Like a specific snare drum...

Re: ? about Wilcoxon-Modern Rudimental Swing Solos

I think many of the 2/4 solos in that book work well in the 90-100bpm range if you play them swung / in a dot&cut feel instead of straight 16th notes. Rhythmania is definitely one of those and...

Re: Double Stroke Control and Fulcrum

My comment is not about the floating pinky alone - I just do not like the way his playing sounds / hands look in that clip, that's all. I still do not think anything less of his work with Deep...

Re: Double Stroke Control and Fulcrum

Here's one example of a top player whose pinky is all over the place - still amazing singles, doubles, triples, flams, backsticking etc. I can think of many other examples as well, but this clip is...

Re: The New Breed... anyone done the WHOLE thing?

Sounds good man. An hour a day is probably a good pace - I totally overdid the whole thing, sometimes practicing only New Breed up to 5 hours a day... That way I completed the project in a year, but...

Re: The New Breed... anyone done the WHOLE thing?

I went through the whole book as per Chester's instructions (singing the click track and each limb's part separately, not moving on before playing the whole two-page thing without making mistakes...

Re: How fast Should my Single Strokes Be?

I'm familiar with the colloquialism you used but I still somehow sensed some sarcasm in the way you used it. But perhaps there are just too many subtleties to the English language I don't quite...

Re: How fast Should my Single Strokes Be?

I highly doubt being a better man than you :) Sorry if I came across that way...

Anyway, getting paid for the gig isn't the number 1 motivator for me to try to imporove my singles or any other...

Re: How fast Should my Single Strokes Be?

Some drummers settle for this and some, like myself, will keep on pursuing faster and cleaner singles for other reasons than money...

Re: Useing drums for "working out"?

Drumming and weight training should definitely be enough to get shredded IF your diet is under control - I have first hand experience of this. The thing is that unfortunately keeping your diet clean...

Avatar changed due to numerous complaints.

I'll upload the revised transcription tomorrow.

Re: David Garibaldi' Drum Intro to Squib Cakes - Transcription & Audio

I have accidentally indicated two accented snare notes (the ones before the HH openings in the main groove part) as ghost notes in the transcription. I'll fix this when I get home and post the new...

David Garibaldi' Drum Intro to Squib Cakes - Transcription & Audio

This tune and especially Garibaldi's drumming on it blew my mind when I heard it for the first time some years ago. Me and a my band's bass player have been messing around with Squib Cakes at...

Re: This makes me want to cry, and practice harder.

I wasn't familiar with this Heimlich dude so I had to google him. I'm sorry to let you down, but I don't sound anything like him.

I am European, therefore I sound like Borat and wear the same...

Re: Starting to play along with songs....

Playing along to songs is a lot of fun and can help you get your creative juices flowing! I'd recommend including songs with programmed beats in your play-along list in order to improve your timing...

Re: First 3 pages of Stick Control - single beat combos

I think it's completely ok to discuss the speeds at which people practice the exercises. Obviously the sound quality etc are important and you will be working on those for the rest of your drumming...
