Re: Snare for a $200 budget

My default answer for this question:

If you like metal snare drums = 14 x 5 Ludwig Acrolite (Aluminum)
If you like wood snare drums = 13 x 6.5 Yamaha Musashi (Oak)

You can easily find either...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Yes, the shell interiors are indeed stained cherry (not black). If you mean what the drums actually are, maybe you missed post #2012 above. I am going to swap out Alu die cast hoops from another set...

Re: Hoop alternatives for Yamaha Club Custom (kapur)

Yup, that was the big drawback of S-Hoops for me too - couldn't clip my mics on anymore.
That would have meant carting around 4 extra mic stands. Never.
Otherwise, I really liked them.

Re: Yamaha Drums

Well, some chrome pitting aside - those are timeless classics, and yes a great deal. Congratulations. The lugs will be just fine, you'll see. The finish looks like they have aged very nicely.
Could...

Re: Anyone prefer standard depth?

Yes, I much prefer standard depth, either 5" or 5.5" deep snares for the most part.
I also much prefer wood snare drums….and my 5.5 x 14 Yamaha seamless copper.

I do own several deeper snares...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Yes I'm thinking along the same lines...maybe that picture was not the actual kit.
TBH, the interiors might be cherry too- I only saw them once last week very briefly. Stay tuned...I will sort it...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Well…
We were wrong on ALL counts, haha. BCA CherryWood kit arrived - with gold, glued-on badges, flanged hoops, absolute lugs, and are 10x9,12x10, 14x14, 20x16, 14x5.5. Bonus - black painted...

Re: Amazing (old) studio footage - Simon Phillips with The Corrs :)

Love the clip and the playing, classic Simon.

The "sound engineer" I do believe is the equally talented/ successful and legendary producer - David Foster.

Re: New Gretsch 3 ply Broadkaster line

Wow. I love the vintage build out on that sparkle nitron...same as opentune - right down to that older logo.
Can't wait to hear these!

Re: Is Tama a Bad Company?

Not really a fan of either company so - meh - but I too had a hard time reading that. No, didn't need a Rosetta Stone to decipher it but it was poorly written. Bad spelling, bad grammar and seemed...

Re: How about a 22x13" ?

Thanks guys. I'll post a better picture when I get home.
I didn't mention, my drum restoration guy did this whole job in about 16 hours.
I needed it for a 2-nighter road gig that I just...

Yes , I was going to mention that too, yours looks great on the Reference kit. That will be a special order in these parts, never seen one in person. I just might try that.

Thanks - the hoops...

Re: How about a 22x13" ?

Thanks Andy. I hadn't planned a 13" deep bass drum - it was just what made sense for eliminating the shell crack. Turns out to be super practical too.

Yes Steve, super punchy and still has the...

How about a 22x13" ?

So I had these two orphan Yamaha Recording Custom toms ...and I had a 22x18 Gretsch Renown '57 shell that had a crack in it. All black.
Brought to my drum guy, he put lugs on it (retro Pearl lugs...

Re: Aluminum Die Cast Hoops

Used on eBay is your best bet.
Only Yamaha make them. 14" new from Yamaha will be over $100 each.
I have 4 Yamaha kits with them and I also put them on one of my Hipgig kits.
Love 'em!

Yup, I concur about the badges/hoops/lugs.

You know, I wouldn't sell your BCA kit for anything. I have another BCA kit in White Marine Pearl and they are the best sounding drums I own, period. The...

Re: Plasti-Dip - Ludwig Rockers

Nice job!
I've tried a few experiments with Plasti-Dip myself, painted a couple bass drum hoops black.
Didn't care for the look so I peeled it off. That's the best part about it.
For those that...

Re: 1987 Yamaha Tour Custom

Ahhhh, nice. I too used to have a set of Tour Customs. In Cobalt Blue. Loved the drums, didn't care for the colour much.
Anyway, to clean them - good 'ol Dunlop GT66. Spray bottle….cleaner and a...
