Every techniques better for different purposes, you cant really summarize technique. You might use french grip for lighter playing with more finesse, and switch to german for more power and speed!...

There was a band playing an outdoor gig in my town the other day and the drummer was 'barking' his hi hat a lot. One of my drummer mates pointed it out and we laughed a bit but admitted it was class!
