Re: This was a topic of discussion the other day

I think this kind of mind frame comes with age/experience.

Arguing for arguments sake I now leave to others.

To me, a different pay grade policy for different instrument players in a band...

Re: Consolidating Gear-Opinions Welcomed and Appreciated

After a few yars on drum forums, I have observed that a good deal of drummers seem to be collectors not only of drums but also of cars, motorcycles, guitars, razors, etc.

Guys owning 50 snare...

Re: New drum day

Very nice !

That exact same kit -model, sizes and finish- is what I would get if I were in the market.

Congrats !

Re: Ludwig / Noble Cooley Solid-Ply Snare Drum Collaboration - Video

Outsourced chrome seems to be the main culprit here, but I might also be wrong.

Re: Ludwig / Noble Cooley Solid-Ply Snare Drum Collaboration - Video

And all the industrial rejections in surrounding bodies of water would also represent a danger to everyone and everything else in the vicinity.

Moving back to sustainably sourced wood hoops would...

Re: Buying drums without hearing them first

I remember your journey, glad to see you still love them as much as on your first day.

That being said, isn't it every canadian's dream to live in Hawaii ?

I am saving up for something...

Re: DW Snare Drums?

Wow !

In my experience, brass is very sensitive and reactive at every dynamic level, from a very light touch to more agressive playing.

Never owned a bell bronze, and I wonder about its...

Re: Shall I buy...?

Maybe PM Darth, because posting the link here is like throwing a bone to a pack of hungry and unsatiable wolves.

I say finders keepers.

Re: State your unpopular drumming opinions

Amen !

That opinion should be the most popular one on this list.

Good musicians let their playing do the talking.

Bragging about one's competence is always a big mistake in my book, as we...

Re: DW collectors series?

DW drums are awesome in every way imaginable.

They have a sound of their own.

Re: Which to tune low, Which to tune medium to high

Brass usually does low very well in my experience.

Re: Corinthian Drum Marketing

I think the point of the op is more for example if the silver sealer was replaced by a white sealer with all the exact same properties, die hard fans would tell you in all they actually hear a...

Re: My new Gretsch drums

Well, put together at this particular time of day, I would say an Italian double espresso with sugar crystals and hot milk on the side : try and get bored with that !

Taking it a step further...

Re: Probably getting my kick drum cut down - what size?

Its on the badges people.

I see a badge with figure stating ahm2218 and the thing is cut down to a 2214 unknown woodworker, that resale value dropped to nothing.

Cutting down is a personal...

Re: Silver Sealer

I am on board with respecting traditions, but I would say they are nothing special to look at compared to natural sealers used by other companies to bring out the natural grain of maple and other...

Re: What is your least favorite concession you made in your set up?

I was in the same state of mind with my 22x18.

Then I saw Larnell Lewis playing one, Vinnie Colaiuta, as well as some of my favorite fusion/jazz/rock drummers, and thought hey if it's good enough...

Re: My new Gretsch drums

Funny thing, I now seem to be associating colours and finishes to food or scenery, which turned out to be a good way to figure out if they are right for me.

It all began when I almost pulled the...

Re: Rank the brands

This thread is sure to evoke passions.

I could have gone with Jasper shells or 3-ply Luddies, but that China thing is the one hot controversial button for Yamaha guys, of which I proudly am.

Re: Selling Yamaha what price?

I paid 450$CAD for that snare slightly used including shipping and that was kind of a steal. My main snare at the moment.

I paid my kit just under 3000$CAD (22-10-12-16) and tried to sell it used...

Re: New Yamaha oaky goodness (Live Custom Hybrid Oak)

Same here.

The marketing around those kits, finishes and hardware seems to target younger players. The vertical integration of their atv line in a drum commercial is pretty clever, but it can...

Re: Gretsch USA Rock Drum Set Shootout!

I really like USA custom toms tuned on the higher side, say med-high all the way to bop-high.

To me, that is the Gretsch sound I preferred.

This video confirms that they also get the job done...
