It works. Especially in the studio where you don't have to pound on the snare to be heard.
Try it, see if you like the sound.

Also, a good studio engineer can make your snare sound fat...

I don't hate the Doors, they created some good songs.
When we play Roadhouse Blues I think we get into a better groove than the Doors ever did. I suppose that is the big payback....
