Learning to read music

Hi! Let me just get to the point - I am very serious about becoming a professional drummer and I'm practicing quite a bit and really checking out as much as I can. One thing that musicians/drummers...

Re: Your thoughts on metal drummers?

I just want to add, or maybe reemphasize, that many DM and BM drummers are comfortable with the "non-celebrity"-status (I think). Personally, I am a huge Hellhammer-fan, and he doesn't strike me as a...

Re: QUALITY practice

Hi! If you feel exhausted, like in a gym, then it's good, but if you feel 'sticky' tension in your limbs, you should stop. I think you can feel the difference. Also, here are some sayings: "No pain,...

Re: Feet first

Hi! I could suggest George Kollias' 16 week control and speed workout. I haven't tried it personally, but he is sure one of the fastest out there and the fundamentals look very promising. I use the...

Re: double strokes on bass drum!!!!

If you search "axis ekit" on youtube, there will be some guy who demonstrates the ekit while playing doubles. Quite useful for you, I guess.

Re: For you who play minimum 230 bpm with feet

Mr, you made my day! I practiced heel up for two hours, and it felt great! But do I always have to start at low tempos in order to play fast? When I am doing these exercises, am I learning the motion...

Re: For you who play minimum 230 bpm with feet

Thanks for the useful info! But when it comes to technique; Hellhammer, who I personally think has one of the best bass drum techniques, does not use the heel toe. To me, it seems that too many...

Re: For you who play minimum 230 bpm with feet

I know that! But I want to know HOW to practice. It doesn't feel good when you don't know if things are done right.

For you who play minimum 230 bpm with feet

Hello, everyone!

I have had the Axis A double pedal (not the Longboards) for about a week now. I thought that things would go much easier with these pedals, than with my old DW 7000's. For...

Re: Teaching Open Handed

That's nonsense. There's no rule of which hand to lead any fills. If you'd always lead with your right then you'll exclude 50% of all the fills you should lead with your left and your coordination...

Re: Sticks: gripping like Akira and Portnoy

I like the feel it gives when playing on the toms. But I dislike the feel and sound from the cymbals, as long as you're not crashing them. I often use the back of the stick when I play cowbell-stuff....

Re: Worlds fastest with 290(?)

I'm sorry, but I don't have a link. I tried to load it up, but it wouldn't work. You can always chech out for sound samples on iTunes.

Is it possible to play doubles at 280 on a real bass drum!?...

Re: Worlds fastest with 290(?)

If you have listened to Blomberg's other recordings, you'll know that he does way over 200 and he improves record after record.

Re: Worlds fastest with 290(?)

I can't see why Kollias "must" be the fastest (?). In Sorte Diaboli is a brand new record, so it wouldn't amaze me if some guys aren't updated on who's the fastest. But again, we'll probably never...

Worlds fastest with 290(?)

Check out "The Chosen Legacy" by Dimmu Borgir and listen from the third minute. Hellhammer does 290 for 14 seconds, and they play that song live, too!

Maybe you'll critisize me for making a thread...

Re: The Swivel Technique

Hi! I am 15 years now, and I have started working on the bassdrum-technique that Jan Axel Blomberg uses. He first plays a stroke with his whole foot, and then pulls up his heel and pushes down with...

I know. Is this why he doesn't explain it on the internet? Because I don't want to buy this dvd.

Thomas Lang coordination-practice

How does Lang develop his coordination skills? I've heard him talking about "the way of effective practicing", but I have never heard him explaining what he does. So could you please help me? Thanks!...

Re: Tim Waterson Dvd trailer preview

Your dvd looks great!

The bassdrum technique that Hellhammer uses, is that something like the heel/toe? Because he uses the whole foot for the first beat, and for the second he raises the back of...

You should check out Jan Axel Blomberg, the drummer for the norwegian black metal band Mayhem. He's not just a guy who blasts between snare and whatever, he has got good ideas, too. If you wan't...
