Re: what to choose Tama Superstar maple vs Tama Starclassic BB

Personally, Id go the B/B. Higher quality kit and I dont have the need for a 7 piece.

In reality, both kits will be rock-solid and play well.

Re: Checking the integrity/cleaning a drum - Video

I do it too Kamak.
Unfortunately that video was done rather ad-hoc around modnight, at the time, and not in a room Id generally use for the job (thats my recording studio!)
Your advice is sound...

Re: Which is/was heavier - Sonor Designer or Yamaha RC?

The SQ2 series would indeed be marginally lighter, particularly the lack of bass drum rail and different bass drum legs.

Re: Which is/was heavier - Sonor Designer or Yamaha RC?

Going well, mate - and still barely a scratch on it!
I've bought myself a DW Collectors as well for a lot of my live work though, to keep the (irreplaceable) Sonor from nightly damage!

Re: Gretsch doesn't answer emails?

Believe it or not, this isnt directly a Gretsch issue at this point.
For a quicker and more systematic response, you should be contacting the store you bought the kit from. Thats what a warranty is...

Re: It Happened Again!!

Have they actually been edited out, or have they been lost in the mix because of lack of adequate compression or sidechaining?

Re: Peter Erskine moves to Tama...

Tis no big deal, but I think the perception that Tama is a 'metal' brand hasnt hurt them at all, in the same way that it hasnt hurt Meinl to give off the same impression.

These perceptions are...

Re: Is it OK to talk about the movie "Whiplash" yet?

Great film. Loved it.
The only thing is, every time I watched Fletcher ripping into his students, I was constantly reminded of Buddy Rich and the infamous bus tapes :)

I believe Buddy Rich's...

Re: Sonor Designer Series

Sonor Designers are the best kit Ive ever played and owned, hands down.

I got the Sonor guys to custom make me one of the very last Designers before the SQ2 was introduced. It cost me a fortune...

Too many is when you buy one that provides no advantage over one(s) you already own

Re: Snare is not cutting through!

Exactly! The snare is THE most cutting part of a kit.
If it ain't cutting through, the band around you is too loud!

Re: A little vent

Take solace in the fact that he probably wont be around gigging much longer, given his lack of organization.

Have you told him how you feel about it?

Re: Drum Technique: 11 viewing, Drum Gear: 131 viewing

If people werent interested in drum gear, there wouldnt be so many variants of it.
Plus, a lot of players are looking to teachers and multimedia sources for their instruction these days.

Re: If you had to choose what would you get and why?

Id go the cheapest one - As all will do the job for you, admirably.

Also, dont be too sold on a particular size before youve heard it. Some brands make 20" kicks than can sound fatter than 22's.

Re: So... why *has* equipment gotten so expensive?

Actually, a lot of drum gear in Australia has come DOWN, with the value of the dollar.
I couldnt believe how relatively cheap some of the dw hardware is now, compared to where it was 5 years ago.
