Re: Underrated Drummers

Fabrizio Moretti from The Strokes doesn't get his due as far as I'm concerned. Here's a pretty good article about his approach to drumming:

Re: Article on Neil P. from RATM Tom Commerford

Even just hearing one side of the story, I still see things from Neil's point of view. Not how I would have reacted, but I'm much more of a people person than Neil seems to be, and that's okay. Neil...

Re: DIY shell axle/rotate assembly?

I used two dining room chairs and a broom. You can see it in my gear thread.

Re: Who is the best British rock drummer of 2017?

It's a real shame a lot of you older guys haven't heard of these bands; most of them make music that'd be right up your alley. Guitar bands are back in style, at least in the UK.

Re: 57 Roadster Drums

Neat! I'd go pretty nuts over a '72 Porsche 911 Carrera RS wrap:

Re: Buy it and they will come...

I'm a car guy, so combining my passion for drums means I always have a few hatchbacks or station wagons around. It's a boon for logistics, and I don't mind driving if the other guys spot me for gas....

Re: Help finding Jojo Mayer video

Such a great video and a really tremendous piece of advice. I sent it to all of my drummer buddies, too.

Re: Not dead yet: Guitar Center

I dread my monthly trips to Guitar Center, but that Stick Club thing they have going is a pretty solid deal - $5 off a pair of sticks every month!

Also, from a gigging standpoint, I like the fact...

Re: Why don't pop songs have real drums?

I think pop music has gotten a lot less diverse over the last 15 years or so. At the turn of this century, you could hear stuff like Mariliyn Manson, Britney Spears, Linkin Park, *NSYNC, Limp Bizkit,...

Re: Amazing Ludwig Wrap

I really like that color. Classy and vintage-looking, like a wonderful sepia-toned photo. If I was in the market for a new Ludwig set, that'd definitely be in the running...

Re: 17 Things Local Bands Don't understand .

I disagree somewhat with the point about Facebook. It shouldn't be your only tool for promotion, but it's very useful for its networking properties alone.

Re: Article in Modern Drummer from bermuda

All of this. His music is now getting to a point where second-generation listeners hear Weird Al's parody first, through their parents, and get confused when they hear the originals later on. That's...

Re: Truth

I'd like to read the full interview sometime. A drumming idol of mine told me before a gig that you get so much sharper, so much faster by playing with people, and he's absolutely right.

Re: I will NEVER buy / own _______, and here's why.

Black hardware. I can't stand it, it looks cheap to me, and I'd be worried about it chipping and looking awful after rimshots and the like. Being seen on countless cheap drumsets doesn't help.

Re: Drum Center Of New Hampshire

Scored my Tama SLP snare and Zildjian A cymbal set from these guys! Great service and fast shipping. I hope I can make it out there and visit the new shop in person sometime.

Re: Suprisingly good kits

Several years back, I bought a four-piece Sound Percussion (Guitar Center store brand) shell pack (with some hardware) for around $200 as a Black Friday deal. 13" snare, 20" bass drum, 12" and 14"...

Re: Ludwig vs. Tama Mid-Range Kit

As some of you mentioned, I did go ahead and buy the Tamas. I never even installed the standard heads (except the bass drum reso head), instead opting for Pinstripes for batters and Ambassadors for...

Re: Instantly recognizable drummers

Another vote for Bernard Purdie. His happiness and enthusiasm behind a drumset really comes through, in a subtle way, in his playing. The man is a being of pure joy. I've been trying (and failing) to...

Re: Choosing Between Two Tama Snares

Thanks for the advice! I was considering the Vintage Poplar maple snare, not sure why I didn't list it.

Choosing Between Two Tama Snares

I've just picked up a three-piece Superstar Classic Maple shell pack, and I'm looking for a snare. I was intially sold on the SLP G-Bubinga, but this looks very tempting for the price:

Re: Ever have a drums finish sway you away from purchasing it?

I'm 100% with you. I feel like you can have bold drums without being gaudy. As Coco Chanel said, "Luxury is the opposite of vulgarity."

Re: Ever have a drums finish sway you away from purchasing it?

I was concerned about this, too. I'm considering a Tama SLP G-Bubinga snare for my new setup, and I'm not a huge fan of the dark chrome hardware. Maybe one day I'll have to re-plate everything...

Re: If Buddy Rich was alive today

Maybe Tom DeLonge would have replaced Travis Barker with Buddy Rich when he became UFO-obsessed, and he would have stayed in blink-182. Incidentally, one could make the argument that Travis Barker...

Re: Ever have a drums finish sway you away from purchasing it?

I was just having a conversation with someone today about how a lot of Pork Pie stuff strikes me as super gaudy, even though it seems like they make great stuff.
