Re: Sorry Neil......Ringo and Paul has much more "feel" than you

100% with you on this and certain drummers suit certain bands ... look at Nick Mason but I love what he does with the music he's playing.

I went for an audition for a band once when I was much...

Re: Problems with drum teacher

Don't "Sack" the teacher ... put him on hold ... he's trying to teach you what theoretically is a good way to go working trough Stick Control and the applying it to the kit.

Go get yourself Tommy...

Re: Sorry Neil......Ringo and Paul has much more "feel" than you

I've always thought he was a brilliant drummer but can understand the above comment to a degree ....

Personally when I sit and play I know the structure of the song ... start / stops etc. and...

Re: Rack Toms Angled or Flat

I could be wrong but I don't think it's the mount that normally causes the issue but the combination of the height of the bass drum plus the depth of the tom.

Whatever the mount's like it's going...

Re: Is it acceptable to audition for multiple groups/bands?

It's not incumbent on him at all, he's under absolutely no obligation what so ever ... the reverse is like saying because he's turned up for an audition the band HAVE to offer him the role ..... ...

Re: Is it acceptable to audition for multiple groups/bands?

So many people don't understand this, they think it's just if the employer likes you and it's not.
The clever and more successful people go to interview and ask questions and delve to find out if...

Re: Is it acceptable to audition for multiple groups/bands?

Go for as many interviews / auditions as you like ..... companies / bands don't just interview one candidate and to think they do is being naive ... they likely to interview a number of candidates /...

Re: Rack Toms Angled or Flat

Having seen the picture of animal it's decided ... after all he is the holy grail of all drummers and probably much like many drummers at school in that era was my nickname :-)

It was Benny Greb...

Rack Toms Angled or Flat

I see more and more drummers with their rack toms virtually flat rather than tilted towards them, I'm not that tall 5'7 and whenever I've tried to set them up like that unless I put my stool...

Re: Improvising fills

You're both probably right so I do apologise and have edited my post however what he was suggesting I still think comes from the land of make believe.

Re: Improvising fills

This is brilliant, I did this for 1 1/2 hrs last night, it's a great way to practice rudiments and actually apply them to the kit and a lot more interesting than just playing them on their own on a...

Re: Improvising fills

I'm sorry but everything you play is something you've learnt in one way or another, what your saying is akin to you NEVER play the same thing twice which I'm sorry I really don't believe and you'd...

Re: Improvising fills

Again I'm sorry I disagree, if you learn enough of them and become totally fluent in them whilst you might have learnt say rlrlkk as a fill and practiced that on it's own you may also have learnt rlk...

Re: Improvising fills

I don't quite go with that ... it's almost like saying because you've hit a drum before playing drums isn't improvising or you're playing away and suddenly decide to do a paradiddle fill BUT because...

Re: Drum Solo/Fill Letdowns

I think Joe Public hear the drums very differently to how a drummer does, you get some songs like Open Arms by Tracy Chapman and there's some amasingly subtle little flurrys going on in the...

Re: Improvising fills

If you've already written out a load of fills you like but only use them at specific times in a specific song it sounds like you haven't memorised them.

Take a fill you like, learn it, put on a...

Re: Where Do You Position Your Beater

Actually I hadn't thought about it in terms of how big the drum is and the one I'm using at the moment is actually a Roland pad.

they've mad them so there's a large gap at the bottom and it's...

Where Do You Position Your Beater

Roughly where do most place their beater, I've always put mine so it lands dead center of the kick but looking at a few videos recently and an awful lot of people have it land certainly higher than...

Re: Drumming With Damaged Ear / Possible Tinnitus

I think I am .... I've also found wetting them a bit helps them slide in so just make them damp before I insert them which makes it a lot easier and they seem to go a lot deeper.

If anybody else...

Drumming With Damaged Ear / Possible Tinnitus

I've had d 6 year break from playing but dug out one of my kits just before Xmas and have been absolutely loving playing again.

The only thing is I'd forgotten how bad one of my ears had got and...
