Re: Help with plastic souding Tama Superstar Hyperdrive, PLEASE

Absolutely. I love the resonance you can get with even top/bottom tuning. Shame it doesn't work in all situations else I'd always do it. Like you say, though, with shallow sizes it would probably be...

Re: Help with plastic souding Tama Superstar Hyperdrive, PLEASE

I would avoid putting used batter heads on as resos. Just save a little and reskin the whole set up. If you do then you'll get all the way to a better sound rather than part way and still frustrated....

Re: Drum gigs?

Judging from some drummers i've seen out - no.

Also this thread is in the wrong section of the forums, surely?

Re: Mapex Armory series

The new snare series is pretty interesting and looks like it could offer some really interesting products at an affordable price tag - an intermediate step before the BP range.

These are going to...

Re: Do Tama's Mighty Hoops Still Have Their Logo?

Mighty hoops still had the branding 3 years ago when i bought a replacement for my old Tama snare.

The others are right - buy a generic 2.3.

Re: Picking a wedding band as a musician = pain!

I'll play - problem solved! ;)

Seriously, though - you can't go wrong with a rock/pop cover band that plays a selection of classics that everyone knows. That's the best way to appeal to the mass...

Re: UK drummers - open question

I know of a few guys who offer edge recutting in the UK (Richard Newby, Gareth Heely and the guys at Highwood to name a few) - but if you can offer something they can't then there's always room. Plus...

Re: PS3 does not fit properly on my Gretsch Catalina Jazz 18" kick (Version 2014)

You could return it for an exchange and see if it's just a bad head? I had a 20" Evans EMAD2 that simply would NOT fit my kick drum no matter what. I contacted Evans and they shipped me a replacement...

Re: Show us your Mapex kits!

Some lovely looking kits popping up in here - that red sparkle saturn finish is outstanding!

To everyone apologising for ressurecting an old thread don't fear - it's better that this one continues...

Re: 20x20 vs 20x18 bass drum?

Having played the 12" deep MONSTER at LDS 2012 I have to agree with Andy on this. Never heard/felt such low end from a kick, let alone one that's only 12" deep.

Re: Got my Mapex Meridian Maple kit finally.......

Nice :) I hope Santa is good to you! I bought myself a Black Panther Blaster for christmas (waiting on Mr. Postman to bring it to me now).

Unfortunately the weakest link in the kit is the snare....

Re: Got my Mapex Meridian Maple kit finally.......

Those Meridians are lovely - For a mid range price point they are fantastic drums! I have a set of Meridian Maples myself and will be keeping them for a very long time :)

What size kick do you...

Re: Ok, who's playing over the festive season?

Quiet month this month over all - had a Birthday party booking on the 8th and we're out on New Years Ever also (both with one band, nothing with the other group). It's a smallish place outside...

Re: Severe flooding in the UK

I live in Somerset but haven't really been affected, fortunately. I did have a pretty hairy trip back from rehearsal the other night though!

It is a little crazy when driving through Glastonbury...

Re: Is the drummer always the last to know?

I arrange all the bookings with both my bands and the rehearsals with one of the 2. I'm always the first to know!

Re: So, I'm going to make a somewhat unique drum video, and I need your help

Gavin Harrison's 19 days is a fantastic example of someone playing a piece in an odd time signature (19/8) and making it sounds very musical at the same time. There's a live video of it on youtube...

Re: Mapex Horizon Big City kit/ Limited Edition Bopset

That picture is of a Mapex Meridian for sure - perhaps Manhattan? If your kit has those same badges then it is a Meridian. If your has different badges (Horizon) and that kit that you saw has the...

Re: Best Heads for Mapex Meridian Maple

Evans G2 coated over G1 clear.

I use coated g1s over clear g1s - sounds beautiful and open. An extra ply would help dampen without killing it.

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Very sharp - I didn't see that at first. Unless I'm greatly mistaken that is a Tama Starclassic or superstar 8" Tom - The tom mounth is very clear in those shots and it is unmistakably a Tama...

Re: Which Manufacturer Has The Worst Marketing?

THAT cymbal manufacturer was Imperial Cymbals. They were the same guys who photoshopped their logos on to some mid range Zildjian cymbals for their website material (as uncovered on Cymbalholic...

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

I second this - I have a K Ride 20" and it's a beauty. You have a nice stick definition with just the right amount of cymbal tone under it so it doesn't sound like a heavy ride, but it's not washed...
